Default TLC63 - Retro Repeat 2

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend and VSN and are ready to stamp again. Beth is away having fun for a few days and she asked me to post the challenge this morning. Beth said to pick a previous challenge and revisit it so I picked the first Technique Lover's Challenge that I participated in. It also happens to be the one and only time I've used this technique so I thought it was time for a rerun.

This week's technique challenge is Bleach. It was TLC04 if you want to do a gallery search for some inspiration and the original instructions are on the following link to the original challenge thread.

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

And to quote Beth...As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!
When you upload, please put TLC63 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread. If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers
If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see
who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!
Have fun!

Have a great week,

Oh this is great -- been wanting to try this, have seen so much in the magazines lately! I'll probably have to give it a try sometime today -- in between all the other projects, of course.

This is a great technique! I tried it awhile ago and loved the results. I have a little time before going to work so I'm off to find the bleach bottle!!

Janet, when you add the link, just be sure that you type a couple of spaces or returns before plugging it in. The reason it didn't work is because there is no space in front of it. HTH

Thanks, Julia. The one & only time I've done this technique was years ago for a bleach swap when Flutterbys was still current.

Besides regular bleach, you can also use dishwasher liquid with bleach. I think because this is a thick globby liquid, you may be less likely to get spatters - oops!

Oh boy!!! Haven't ever tried this before! Just one question though... the bleach doesn't damage the rubber on the stamp does it? Do you need to wash it off immediately after you use it? Just wondering. Gotta treat my babies right! lol

Hope I can play later on today.

oh, I bought a bleach pen for this purpose...uhmmm, some time ago!!! Now I have an excuse to break open the package...hope its still good! I have to admit, for some reason, bleach scares me!!!! Hopefully I will manage with few mishaps!!! Thanks to these challenges I'm actually using things I buy...sometimes years later, but I am using them!!! See you later! Thanks for getting me going ladies!!! Have a good day...

Rainy, I haven't bleached for a while, but I carefully ran water over the rubber (holding the stamp so the wood doesn't get in the water stream) before cleaning it the regular way. My stamps are still OK. HTH

Thanks, April. I'll try that... I think maybe the safest place for me to stamp today will be on the laundry room countertop next to the sink! Now if I can just find it!! After VSN there are one or two dirty items in there that need attention. And, I only did six of the challenges. Can't even imagine the mess had I done all of them. lol

I read the instructions in the first challenge and it talks about the felt working better than paper towels - I don't have any felt - do the paper towels work almost as well?

Susan, I found that using old terry rags work great. I cut two rags to the same size as my cleaning tray. (I use the stamp n scrub tray from SU) On one side, I pour the bleach, on the other side I dry after I spritz the stamp with cleaner. So easy!

Here's the link to the card I made this morning:

Thanks Julia for filling in for Beth.
I hated the smell of bleach and it hurt my nose to use it, DD is the same way. So here's a trick - let it dry completely then dampen the paper towel again, JUST DAMPEN! No smell and I use it over and over. It sits in my closet in a pie pan so I guess I'll get that out today!

Thanks for dusting this off, Julia! I have been working with bleach this weekend on a few projects, and I find that it helps me to use a glass bowl and fill with a little dishwashing liquid with bleach in it (the kind that goes into your dishwasher). I then "paint on" the bleach using a q-tip. This way, the bleach doesn't glob up into the stamp, and I also control amount of bleach on the stamp. To clean, I rinse my rubber under running water, but only the rubber part. An old baby toothbrush helps if some gets into the crevices. For the most part, I rinse the rubber and rub with my index finger at the same time to scrub it off.

When I posted this in the Techniques forum several months ago, Camsmom stated that she used to strip furniture using Dishwashing Liquid, and she didn't recommend it. So, I suppose, "buyer beware" but I have been doing this technique for over a year (mostly on the same set, in fact!) and nothing has happened yet. BUT... I am careful with making sure it only touches the rubber.

The bleaching pen worked great the first time I used it, but once I opened it and used it, it seems to separate or something not work as well. Likely just me.

One last bleaching tip: You can also fill up one of your aquapainters with bleach. SU does not endorse or recommend storing your AP overnight with bleach in it, though.

HTH! Now, I need to stop chatting, finish cleaning house, and save a little bleach to play....... (WINK).

I love bleaching, but I never seem to get the look I want. I decided to try it with a b/g and I really like what happened. Here's my card - pending as of 12:15 CT:

I regularly put my backgrounds under a lot of running water and scrub with a nail brush. It hasn't hurt them at all. I do it all the time.
