Default TLC618 ~ Festive Paper Lanterns ~ {12/26/2016}

It's the last TLC challenge of 2016! I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. Thank you from all the team for playing along with the TLC challenges throughout the year.

For those with time to stamp today, this is a quick and easy challenge, suitable for celebrating the New Year or for a summer garden party or festive birthday. These have been on my possible challenge list for quite a long time now - festive paper lanterns, Chinese style.

If you have a crimper, these are super-easy. If you don't, you can simply score with a stylus, which is what I did.

1: Punch or die-cut suitable shapes. Circles and ovals work well, and I think perhaps some of the simple label shapes might also work.
Use a light card or paper. My Celebrate card uses vellum, the Little Geisha is printed red paper. If you like to stamp on your paper, go ahead.

2: Crimp or score the lantern. I scored at 1/8" intervals.

3: Depending on the shape you have used, and how wide the strip of card you use to make the top and bottom is, you may need to trim a tiny bit off each end of your lantern piece. Then add a strip of card-stock to each end.

4: Trim the ends of the little strips of card as shown below. Be careful not to cut into the lantern.Editing to add that seeing Pat's lovely card reminded me that I had meant to suggest adding tassels as an optional extra: you could add a little tassel dangling from the bottom strip, in the same colour. Thanks for jogging my memory,. Pat.

5: Hang your lanterns and you're done. You can pierce a hole in the card strip and thread cord through, or just stick it underneath for a quick fix.

Here's my Celebrate card.
Here's my Little Geisha with Lanterns card.

 Remember to use the keyword TLC618 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

oh you mean there is a reason I kept my crimper after all? ( I can hardly do straight across anything with it, it feeds crooked) but, cutting it small is such a cool idea Sabrina.

( I will have to think about this)

Mine doesn't just feed crooked, it barely even crimps the lightest copy paper. I'll be saying a big thanks to everyone who contributed to Moddy Christmas because a decent crimper is sitting in my Amazon basket .

Oh such a Fun Challenge - especially since My son, who I adopted while living in Japan and his wife (born in China) and her entire family do a BIG Chinese new year celebration every year! Here is my lantern card:

I had the house to myself for the first time since the busy holiday weekend so I spent the time doing this relaxing technique. Here's my card: TLC New Years Latterns by janemom - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I have LOTS of Asian themed stamps which I haven't pulled out in forever so I just HAD to make a 2nd card for today's challenge. This depicts a long standing Chinese tradition ( as explained by my Chinese DIL):

Sabrina this was fun, I tried it your way and flopped! Then I saw Jane's card and decided to case hers!

Super fun making this card. Although I did make two backgrounds. I got Brushos for Christmas so I wanted to try them. The background was just too busy, thus this is the second one. Maybe I can come up with something to use the other one for.
Here's my card.

TLC618 lantern love

I always wonder about these characters, being limited to English and the Roman alphabet. I take it on faith that the character means "love"--

Took me awhile to get to it, but I loved your technique for making paper lanterns for cards, Sabrina. I have a crimper so it made easy work of it. Thanks.
