Default TLC600 ~ Pull-Up Card {08/22/2016}

600 TLC challenges - that's a milestone worth celebrating, I am sure you will agree.

I hope you don't mind that I have chosen to celebrate it with a fold. I know that folds are not everybody's cup of tea, but it's been a while since I featured one, and this is easy. I used it for a sample card for a WT challenge recently, and since several people commented that it was one they had often meant to try, I thought I would use it this week.
I can't remember how I first came across it - the tutorial I used for my first card is found on Lyssa Griffin Zwolanek's blog, and you can see it HERE.

Her measurements require a 12" piece of cardstock, so I did some messing around and have made a tutorial using a regular 11" sheet of card, and I will also add metric measurements. I'm sorry I couldn't find a video tutorial - I know there are some who prefer this. But try Googling "pull-up card" and...well, I gave up after going through three pages that were every other sort of technique but not this one. It was hard enough finding even photos that weren't of cards made using the HOTP template.
I hope my photos are clear enough to guide you. If you have any questions, post on this thread and I will answer them as soon as I can.

I asked Niki, because I know she loves folds, if she would make a sample for me to test drive the metric measurements and make sure that they work - so we have extra samples this week. Make sure to check them out for extra inspiration - on the first card she used a larger panel to decorate the front, and a magnetic closure. For her second one she used a belly-band, which is a great idea for keeping it closed. Thank you so much, Niki for your help and your time.

Once you've made one, you'll find you can play around with the proportions to suit yourself!

Now - let's pull up our socks and cut to the chase...

Pull-Up Card
You will need two pieces of card to create the pull-up card; it can be decorated with DP, stamping and embellishments as you desire.

US measurements:
you will need one piece cut to 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 3 1/2" and 8 1/2"
And for the insert, a piece cut to 4" x 4 3/4", scored at 1/4".

Metric measurements:
use an A4 sheet cut in half so that it is 10.5 cm wide by 297mm high, score it at 9.5 cm and 22.5 cm
For the insert, you will need a piece 12.5 cm high by 9 cm wide, scored at 12 cm.

As well as the photos inserted below, I have created a Google Documents tutorial with the measurements and photos. You can find that here

Here's my card: TLC600 Pull Up Your Boots

Remember to use the keyword TLC600 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I'm sorry! I took a third photo of my card, showing the front flap barely lifted so that you could see how the insert slides down....but I forgot to email it to myself last night, so it's not accessible from my phone. I may have time to add it into this post before work.

OK - in between stripping the bed, putting a wash on and making the bed up again, here we are:

You can see that when the card is closed, the insert slides down so that my decorative border only starts to appear as the card is opened.

Waiting on a call back from the dentist. In the meantime, I have cut the basics and scored. And I LOVE folds!

Yay. If you let the papers do the talking, this one is easy and quick.

Good luck with the dentist!! DH is in the middle of a root canal /crown right now. Dental problems are NOT fun.

Thanks for the fun fold challenge Sabrina!! It was easy like you said. I went ahead and used the 12" since I have loads of it (being a 12 X 12 scrapbooker).

Sabrina - technical question . . . How do you get your 2 photos uploaded side by side?? I would like to be able to do that instead of having to post 2 separate pics - which may then not fall together in the postings . . . .

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give!

I do it in my photo editing package.

First, I scale both my images so they are the same height (personally I go for 1000 pixels. I check the width, which is probably different for the two photos, LOL.
Then I create a new blank file which is 1000 pixels high by whatever wide - it usually comes to about 1800.
If you want a border, make the new document slightly bigger, but only by about 50 pixels each way.
Copy and paste your first photo into the new file. In my program, it centres, so I need to drag it over to the left.
Copy and paste your second photo in and move as necessary.
Save and upload .
Even when you upload two images, they will at least be together in your own gallery, if not on the home page. But, sigh, even after all these years I can never remember which order to upload them in so that the one I want to come first will.

If you let me know which package you use, I may or may not be able to help with more specific details. I usually use GIMP but could figure it out for PSE, I am sure.
