Default TLC579 ~ Hinged Panel Card ~ {03/28/2016}

Happy Hoppy Monday, everybody. I hope that the Easter Bunny visited all of those who like their chocolate, and left sweet treats for you.

Today we have an EASY fold. I came across it a few weeks ago during a gallery mod shift: it was THIS CARD by Tyra, and I took a double look because at first I wondered if it was a Joy Fold or some type of Z fold.
I was intrigued by it, and figured out that it was easy enough - and I also reckoned that it was how Robin was making those fantabulous gate fold cards that wowed us all. It was indeed - and Robin has kindly shared her tutorial for that so you have two options today - and another gorgeous sample from her. Thank you, Robin!! See the attached pdf file for her full instructions. She's also shared photos which show the cut pieces, the complete card, and also the way she creates the decorative panels separately and adds them to the inside and front panels.

Your options are a simple Hinged Panel Card as in my samples, or a Hinged Gate Fold as in Robin's sample.

This fold, in the regular, non-gate fold version, lends itself to an inside panel that follows through from the front - it remains hidden till the card is opened. So think about using a sentiment that carries through from the front, or add the punchline to a joke on the inside.

I guess in some ways this is a modified, dressed-up Z-fold. Basically you take your regular card base (with a fold at the left edge, NOT at the top), and score again halfway across the front. Fold back along this score, as shown in this photo, and then you have created the "hinge" to add a panel to. This panel can be the full size of the card front as in Robin's - or for mine, I made this panel and my inside insert 1/2" smaller than the card front.

* For a 4 1/2" square card you need a piece of cardstock 4 1/2" x 9 " for the base.
Score at 2 1/4" and 4 1/2" inches. Use pieces 4" square for the front and inside panel - or whatever size you prefer.

* For a 5" square card you need a piece of cardstock 5" x 10" for the base.
Score at 2 1/2" and 5", and use 4 1/2" squares for the front panel and inside - or as you prefer.

* For a 5 1/2" square card you need a piece of cardstock 5 1/2" x 11" for the base.
Score at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2". Use 5" squares for the front panel and inside, or as your prefer.

* For an A2 card, you need a piece of cardstock 4 1/4" X 11" for the base.
Score at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2", and use pieces 3 3/4" x 5" for the front panel and inside, or as you prefer.

Dimensions for Robin's Gate Fold are in the attached PDF file.

I needed to make a card to send to a little boy my husband and I sponsor in Africa through Compassion Australia. His favourite colour is red and favourite toy is a car.
So my card is in the gallery HERE

What a fun challenge! I got a very late start......went to see Mom, had a dentist appointment (yes, it is TMJ!), haircut, groceries, drugstore, and post office. I came home and made lunch, chicken soup, and here I finally am!!

I don't think you are late, right on time or early.
I'm confused as to the 'timeline' of this challenge. The challenge posts on Monday and we are supposed to try to finish it before the next Monday, is that right?

There is no deadline as such for any of the daily challenges. VSN and the special challenges like DTGD and HYCCT are the only challenges with deadlines.

However people uploading after the first day will probably get fewer comments, if that matters to you; most people play along and upload on the day the challenge goes live, and that is when they generally leave comments on other cards.
Once people post on the challenge thread, I will always comment but after the next week's challenge has been posted, I stop monitoring the gallery for any uploads people made without posting a link or comment here.

This was a fun challenge! Helps to get me out of the box now and then. I am a creature of habit and my habit is the old A2 card most of the time.
