Default TLC 678 ~ Stained Glass Background ~{02/19/2018}

Hi everyone! It is the third Monday of February – HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!? I feel like I just got through Christmas, much less New Years and Valentine’s Days. Sorry, I digress! So, as I was saying - third Monday of the month…which means it is time for me to share a technique with you.

My technique today is to create a Stained Glass background. It is pretty easy –you just need a pencil, a ruler (or not), a Sharpie, and the color medium of your choice. I looked up stained glass images online (click HERE to see what I found). I used these images as inspiration and just went for it. NOW these are clean and simple (geometric/mosaic) stained glass not images created from stained glass (though if you want to try that, there is a tutorial HERE for you to try.)

The steps are as follows:

Step 1
  • Choose the appropriate paper for the ink you are going to use.(I decided to create a few examples so wen with Xpress It Blender Paper for Copics, Watercolor for Zig Real Color Brush Markers, and Bristol for Inktense pencils…
  • With your ruler and pencil, draw the lines of your stained glass design. If you want a more organic look try drawing wavy lines, or whatever pattern pleases you.

Step 2
  • Color your image - color each block individually and vary the shades.
  • Don’t think too much about where you place each color. If it is random, it looks more realistic.

Step 3
  • Go over your lines with a sharpie to give it the finished look.

Here are my examples:

Here's a link to the
TLC678 Stained Glass Background challenge gallery.

Below are the links to each individual card if you want to see the details.I hope you are inspired! I can't wait to see what you create!

Hugs,
Lyn

I had a quick go with Mermaid Markers - I'd love to try this again when I have time to use pencils for a less bright result, but it was fun.

Heart TLC678 Dreamer

This technique was actually easy and relaxing- got out my markers to color my random triangular shapes- adding "leading" for my panes with my #2 pencil. Used an orange splattered background behind my stained glass to pump up the color intensity. Dry embossed my glass as it reminded me of a medieval church window. Here's Dreamer

p.s. I totally cheated on this, but I promise to do better in the future, lol.
