Happy October, everybody - wow, where has this year gone.
As it's the first Monday of the month it's time for Everything Old is New Again, and while I thought about going with acrylic block stamping because I've been having fun and much better success trying it with distress oxides, in the end I thought I'd go "older" and we will be revisiting
Telescoping Cards, with the added option of Telescoping Snowmen for those building their Christmas stash.
The two tutorials can be found in our Tutorials section - and as always, we
really appreciate it when you take the time to upload to the Technique Spotlight gallery if you use the tutorials. Simply choose Technique Spotlight from the first drop-down menu, and Telescoping Cards from the second.
In the case of the Telescoping Snowman, since that tutorial featured in the Holiday Blitz, the steps are : Technique Spotlight -> Holiday Blitz -> and then a third drop-down menu opens up where you can choose Telescoping Snowman.
Top Tip: I was glad that I had made a note in one of my earlier uploads relating to this. If you are matting and layering, as I did in the Honey card, I definitely found it easier to assemble the base layers, and then go back and put the stamped panels in. It may mean removing the brads and then piercing another hole through the stamped piece, but it's easier to make sure everything is lined up just the way you want it.
Telescoping Cards
Telescoping Snowman
This featured as
TLC338 back in August 2011. In the years since then I think that many of us have a wider range of suitable shapes to use. Bear in mind that they need to be a shape that will stack nicely when closed - after that, the world's your oyster. I am thinking that octagons or hexagons with a spider's web would make a great Halloween card. I'll leave that for someone else to try, since I don't have much call to use Halloween cards and have already made the only one I'm likely to send ;-). In the past I have used circles, squares and snowflakes, sometimes leaving them as they are, sometimes adding them to a card base.
Here's a link to our
TLC710 Telescoping Cards gallery
Here are my cards: I used the centre-step style base for my snowman as in the tutorial, but you could just use a regular base. I also didn't bother making my twiggy arms to fold under - I wanted long twigs and they were going to show even if I used brads so that they could swivel under.

Remember to use the keyword
TLC710 (and optionally TLC338 )when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
