You can also use clear contact paper! We used to do this as kids with magazine images and make our own slides.

sorry.... I jumped to conclusions! I see Jami's card is a different technique.... today's challenge truly does need something 'sticky' behind the image so the printed paper sticks. I need to SLOW down and READ things first!
again... sorry!!!
but, I saw that shaker made by Jami last week... fell in love with the idea, and had it waiting in my favorites....

No Xyron. Do you just stamp directly on the clear contact paper or packing tape?

Jerri, I have the xyron and it is the larger one. If you get one, I suggest getting the 5.5 inch one as it is more versatile. I used mine more w/scrapping, but I have used it w/stamping as well.

I cannot wait to try this, but I will be gone most of the day.... I will try one tonight. Thanks for hosting this and this sounds like a nifty idea.

I love this technique but don't have time to play. I just made one for June's Dirty Dozen gallery so if you have a membership...here is mine...

Thanks Pinky,

I went out on the internet and read up on xyron. I think I'm going to get the 5.5 as you suggested. Is it good for cardmaking. Can I run an image or mat through and then stick on the card?

Have a xyron but only the adhesive not laminate. Looked at the samples, it seems you can see through them to the image underneath the flowers. Question is, if you use pattern paper how can that be?

Heather, from what I can tell, once you gently rub the paper off, only the ink stays on the laminate, and judging from what I read, the harder you rub, the more of the ink you rub off. So I think you have to be very careful in rubbing consistently so that you don't have areas that are clearer than others.

Thanks Jerri, now it's clearer in my mind. Now to find the time and the packing tape because that's all I've got to work with right now.

Hmmmm... that's true! I think you just saved me from wasting time!! I was just about to try this with cheap (very thin) packing tape! I don't think it'll work.
maybe you wet it enough to pull some of the paper off the laminate.... but leave the image on?
OK... I'm gonna do everyone a favor... and LEAVE!! tee hee.... I am sure I'm adding to the confusion! Going back to the ORIGINAL web site and READ EVERY word of it to see if I think I can improvise with anything I have on hand here.

I love doing the packing tape transfers using magazine images. In case anyone needs the instructions, here they are: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_paper_cr...856795,00.html

Heather, remember to soak it in water a few minutes before rubbing the paper off. I forgot to mention that earlier.

Very cool technique, Beth. I saw this on HA & have been meaning to try it. Thanks.

For those of you who are still confused........

You need either clear packing tape OR laminate sheet OR transparency sheet and xyron. Not all of them. You are stamping on the non-sticky side; sticking your patterned paper to the sticky side; THEN you wet it & rub off the paper that you just stuck on. What you are left with is the clear stamped piece with just ink on the sticky side (the paper is rubbed off leaving only the design under your stamp). Then you stick this on your card. Hope that makes it clear.

I'm off to play.

Sonia, The only sub for StazOn that I can think of, would be to pick a very simple image and trace it with a sharpie. The important thing is that the ink will stay on the transparency. Julia S. has done this with Sharpie: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers and someone has been doing Bud Basics with a sharpie or a pigment liner, but I couldn't find it to show you.

Maybe you could try embossing in black??! Just be careful with the heat and the transparency.

Just my two cents...I tried the cold laminate method while checking out the technique a few weeks ago and either the laminate I bought wasn't great or it just doesn't work as well as the acetate/xyron way. Packing tape will also work but the images will not be a rigid.

HTH,

That should work...so would free-handing with the sharpie. You really should put Stazon on your next order....there are so many great things you can do with it.
