TLC317 ~ Newsworthy ~ (03/21/11)
Hi Friends!

We’re living in a brand new world. We have laptop computers that connect to the internet all over the world. Our cell phones have operating systems. We read books on a tablet less than an inch thick that holds an entire library. Technology moves at lightning speed. While my 28 yr old can still remember cassette tapes and the IBM PC jr., my 16 year old barely remembers anything before DVDs and XBOX.

~ Newsworthy ~

I just read (on the net!) that the New York Times is now going to charge people to read their news online. I’m guessing that’s because the news in print is going by the wayside. Now I may catch a wee bit of flack for today’s “technique”, as it’s more of a “ways to use it”, but I felt we could stretch this once.

Today I want you to use newspaper in your project. Newspaper is perfect for die cut flowers, paper piecing… any number of things. It accepts ink beautifully, so you can sponge it. So let’s give the newspaper a little love today, ok?

Here’s my sample:

WOW! That's a challenge! I had a Donna Salazar Crafty Chronicle laying on my desk, and it's NEWSPRINT! LOVE when a challenge comes together!

Here's today's submission

This was a great push to try and use actual newsprint rather than DP that looks like a newspaper. Thanks, Holly! Here's my shabby chic GET WELL CARD.

Cook22 03-21-2011 12:51 AM

I think I feel some gesso resist coming on if I can find the time after work and housework. Maybe I can do the gesso bit while I do the housework ;-) and deal with the drying time that way. Sounds cool, Holly.

sumtoy 03-21-2011 01:28 AM

I cheated too. No newsprint in the house so I used an ad from the local coffee shop. Thanks for looking

A cup with you

Vicky Gould 03-21-2011 02:12 AM

You are so right, Holly. Matter of fact, I don't subscribe to the newspaper - it's about 6-8 pages in my small town and we all know all the gossip before it can get printed!!! But, I do get a free weekend edition, so I have to give it a try. Thanks!

Vicky Gould 03-21-2011 03:59 AM

That was a fun and challenging challenge, Holly! Thanks so much!

fun, Holly! thanks

Crafty Math Chick 03-21-2011 05:01 AM

YESSSSSS!!! I distressed a bunch of newspaper just this weekend (hubby wanted to recycle it and then I panic when I don't have any to use on cards, so I cut out a bunch of sections that were entirely text and pre-distressed them for future use - YAAY! (happy dance). Thanks Holly!!

Love newspaper, Holly! Great challenge!
Here is my Newsworthy Friend.

hobbydujour 03-21-2011 05:39 AM

Great challenge, Holly! I agree with you, the printed word is going by the wayside as far as a source of daily information. I'd miss my morning paper. I decided to go with a car theme and the car classifieds seemed like a good sheet to use......besides I wouldn't ruin anyone's reading pleasure for today! ; ) Thanks for another fun Monday!

imastampin 03-21-2011 05:48 AM

The real challenge here is to find some newspirnt. I don't take a newspaper, so I will have to see if someone threw one of those free ones in the driveway, but not until after the sun comes up. I'm not going out in the dark. Oh wait, maybe I should! Then the neighbors won't see my jammies. lol

lacyquilter 03-21-2011 05:55 AM

Oh, good thing we get some newsprinted ads & stuff, since we don't get any official newspapers anymore. Great challenge. Thanks, Holly.

Hi Holly,
I may very well be in trouble on BOTH fronts this morning.........not enough newspaper, too much stuff for CAS! Sorry.

hobbydujour 03-21-2011 07:34 AM

Did another card, Holly....just for this challenge. I think it is such a cute idea and has SO many possibilities.....as seen in today's gallery. Thanks!

bambi64 03-21-2011 07:58 AM

Well I wasn't sure if I was going to do this or not but did manage to find some newspaper and using CAS sketch, came up with a card. Enjoy: TLC317 Have a Beautiful Day!_ajh by bambi64 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Every week I look at the challenge to see if I have the things needed to participate or are they packed. This is a great week for me Holly, I have newspaper. Thanks so much I enjoyed making this. Here is my "What's the Buzz".

Chrissyd723 03-21-2011 09:10 AM

I didn't have any newspaper *gasp* lol so I grabbed the First Edition News Print paper from SU = then grabbed my Brayer and ink to change the color of it...

You can see my creation HERE.

Thanks for the challenge. I will be back in awhile to see your creations!

Biggan 03-21-2011 09:56 AM

Thanks Holly! So fun to be inspired to do something new!

amyfitz1 03-21-2011 11:14 AM

I made this one for the Clean & Simple Challenge, too. I didn't have a newspaper (we are all digital in our house), but I did have the First Edition DSP which looks like newspaper or pages from a book. Love it!

CAS111, TLC317 Strength Thank You

My Card
Hi Holly (waving),

Here is my card for your challenge. I hope you like it (believe it or not - I pre-distressed the newspaper yesterday because my hubby wanted to recycle the majority of the paper, LOL! Talk about good timing!).

I am so glad I could finally participate in one of your challenges. Time to rest...

lacyquilter 03-21-2011 01:07 PM

Fun. Here's mine: friends.

WOW, how funny/sad is it that most folks don't even get the paper anymore to have any to use for this challenge! The only reason I had some is there is this little cheesy free local paper we get thrown in our driveway inside of a plastic cleeve every week. I used to just recycle them immediately, but now I have started to look through them for 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 sections of pure text, cutting those portions out, and saving them for future use.... then recycling the paper. LOL!

Holly, what a great challenge. I discovered that the newspaper was a little too flimsy for quilling, so I used a glue stick to glue the newspaper to a piece of cardstock and then it worked great for quilling the roses on this card.

Toy 03-21-2011 06:19 PM

I just finished going through the gallery and I must say you girls totally ROCKED my world. Every last card was unique and clever. I may have to subscribe to the local paper so I can keep my supply fresh! :)

Newspaper Flower
Super challenge, Holly! Had to scrounge around for some newspaper. We didn't get the Sunday paper, as usual. Here's my Newspaper Flower. Thanks for looking!

We don't get the paper any more, but I found an old one that was full of bad news (guess a recent one would be too!) Anyway, here is a card that I needed myself today!
