Well, I don't know where to buy, so I'm no help there. But I hate it when workers at the store don't know what's going on and so they try to make you feel like the idiot instead of them. I'm sure someone will have a more helpful answer.

There are different thicknesses so it depends on what you need to use them for (however that is about all I know about it)

look for Overhead Projector sheets..not that anyone uses those machines anymore heheheh.

but yes there are different thicknesses. I have a box( very thin) that my husband 'liberated' from the office that I use to make the clear glass ornaments every Christmas.

and if I ever remember to buy the thicker ones when I see them, those are great to make permanent templates for your two step stamps for use with the stampamajig.

Most office supply stores will have them. They're called transparencies or overhead transparencies. You can get 100 sheets in a box (at least at the office supply store I go to.) Its too bad that the store clerk was suck a jerk. I usually will tell them off myself then call the manager later and tell them what a rude employee they have working there.

Good news!! Michael's now carries the Graphix brand acetate sheets!! 25 to a pad, .007 thickness and only $10.99!! With a 40% off coupon, they're only about 6.50 for 25! Considering Archiver's carries them and they're $6 for 4 sheets, this is a pretty good bargain!! They're in with the rest of the pad papers in the scrapbooking section. Hope that helps!

You can also order them (called "Window Sheets") from Stampin' Up! They are available in the new Occasions mini catalog. I don't know if you have that time or need more, or not.

A box of 100 transparencies at Office Max (3M brand) will run you around $29.95. I think it is the best deal going.

Those are awesome (they are printed)... they run $5.95 for TWO sheets, though.

True acetate sheets are a bit thicker than tranparencies. It really depends on what you are looking to do with it. I have acetate I have used to as a card base... it is a cool effect. I use 'transparencies' for windows in boxes and to make some bags.

What are you using it for?

I got a pad--the thickness is very nice--great weight for card BASES!

I've had a box of standard overhead transparencies, and, while great for overlays, they weren't quite as sturdy as I'd like for card bases.

I wanted the Graffix brand for bases and am anxious to use 'em! WOO HOOOOOOOO!!!

Oooh--forgot that you can also look in the "report covers" area at the office supply store and they have some thick weight acetate covers--they come in clear and frosted! I bought the frosted ones and they are awesome for card bases, die cutting with dies that can handle the thickness, etc. to make your own "sheers", very similar to the pre-fabbed kind by a number of companies like Maya Road, etc.

Cool, Julie! I will have to keep my eyes peeled for that stuff.

Have you seen the frosted acetate sheets? REALLY COOL!

I am looking for thick ones for card base and medium weight for other techniques. I have the real flimsy ones and I don't like it at all for anything. I wanted a supply of them, like at least 50 because I teach card classes at my lss.

Thanks for all your replies!

I was also just going to say this. I forgot that I bought some of these to organize my clear stamps into binders. They're are a very nice weight. Here in Canada at Office Depot a package of 25 was $15.99.

I know at Staples (and probably the other office stores) you can buy ONE sheet or report cover in the copy shop and see if it is what you need for your purposes. Better to find out for a dollar that the weight is right or wrong, than be stuck with a box of the wrong kind..

the "trick" is to call them transparencies or report covers and NOT to ask for acetate, which will earn you the dumb look.

I searched my Michaels today, and they didn't have the acetate sheets. Anyone know any place else?

I would agree with you on asking for transparencies or report covers. I work for Staples and when I worked in the stores the first time someone asked acetate I had no idea what it was.

here is a link to grafix - http://www.grafixarts.com/

they have a store locator link, or you can also shop online. i like their clear sheets, they are available in 2 weights. i like the lighter weight for cards, and the heavier for mini albums...

Julie, have you had a chance to play with it yet? I'm just beginning to play with my clear cardstock and would LOVE to see how you use it.

I just found this website that has the 'transparencies' for a WAY cheap price. Not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for, but you can get 50-100 for about $20.00.
