I have all of the CTMH inks but like SU better so I am going to gradually get the SU inks. What are your favorite or most used colors? I just can't see using YO YO yellow too much. LOL . Thanks for the help.
I know that you weren't offended!!! I love the Bold Brights too. What is odd is I love the colors of Earth Elements but I am drawn to brighter inks and markers. Thanks for the info. I just got Close to Cocoa. It looks like I "need" Chocolate Chip too.
I like Close to Cocoa, it's not a pretty color but perfect for sponging to give a vintage look. Love Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Pretty in Pink and Melon Mombo
to start with, think of the next holiday/event you will be working on. Get the colors for that event. A lot of crafters are working on summer items and soon will be doing Halloween or Christmas cards. Think 6 months ahead.
If you are getting ready for Christmas, think greens, reds, white, etc. Glorious Green, Real Red or Handsome Hunter and bravo burgundy. Think about the paper you have and what may go with the paper.
I use real red, glorious green, only orange, brilliant blue, chocolate chip, really rust, not quite navy, handsome hunter, bravo burgany, pretty in pink, bashfull blue, a lot. It depends on the holiday/event. For black, stazon.
Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive, Elegant Eggplant, and Basic Grey are ones I use a lot. Right now with Valentine's i'm using Real Red and Pretty in Pink, and Choc. Chip. When I first started I bought inkpads with the season since most of my cards would focus around a theme. I only did a few with each order and slowly I built up my collection.
I started out my collection with the Earth Elements stampin' Spots so I could have a full color family. {And don't believe anyone who says you can't use a spot to ink a background stamp- I've done it numerous times with plenty of success!) That was over 5 years ago. I still love my EE, but have been leaning more towards Rich Regals in recent years. Oh, and of course the In Colors get tons of use from me every year.
Good luck with your decision! Just know that you'll end up with all of them eventually!
I find Old Olive and Real Red compliment many of the other colors. The spots are a wonderful and affordable way of getting a color group and finding out which colors you may want a full size pad. Good Luck.
I love them all, but I'm an mostly an Earth Elements kind of gal. I would suggest starting with the spots. That way you can have a varity of colors and you will soon know what ones you like and use the most.

just plan to... over time! LOL
that's what i am doing anyway.
and i also LOVE yoyo yellow! LOL
i thought that i loved the bold brights the most but as it turned out it was the earth elements set that i completed first. everyones taste is different.
i say just get a few at a time and see how it goes.
Yup...I think SU spots are the way to go. I've only used the black and chocolate chip, but the pads stay nice and juicy and it's easy to see where your ink goes. I mostly use Memento inks...black or brown, in the full size, but I have a TON of the cat's eye stacks, I love the variety. Just never seem to save enough to get all the SU spots.

I love rose red and always artichoke. Heck, I love all the rich regals!
Another way to look at the color families is by season:
Bold Brights - summer colors
Earth Elements - fall colors
Rich Regals - winter colors
Soft Subtles - spring colors
But, yes a good idea is to try out the spots- they are easily portable and give you all 12 colors at once or the markers. My first SU! purchase were the bold brights markers. It takes a little bit longer to ink the stamp - but also is great for coloring.

i went with the spots too because i just didn't see myself using the colors enough to warrant the big pads even though they do stay juicy.and I haven't regret that decision it was a cheaper decision for me it just takes longer on big stamps lol but i hardy use my rich regal spot set yes there are a few in that set that are nice to work with but i myself hardly pull it out. i'm more b.b and e.e with stazon for my black. i guess that is just my style. i also have some other inks colorbox (metalics)and (spectrums) which i hardly use too

I don't know why I never thought of buying the Spots before--makes sense. I have an order that is about ready to go in and some Hostess money to spend. I was debating what to do with it and now I know. Thanks for the advice!
As for me--I think the big thing is your style too. Some colors I can't see ever using though and then I see a card with it and absolutely love the combinations. I do tend to send cards for the various holidays so having the basics to cover those is a good idea.

I like Yo Yo Yellow with Basic Gray...just made a sympathy card with that.
My most used colors are Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip, Pretty In Pink, quite a few of the retired in-colors, Almost Amethyst, Real Red, Close to Cocoa, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy, Elegant Eggplant & Bravo Burgundy...I like colors from all the families, but only a few from each.
Of course, holiday colors.
I don't care for the "spots"....just too small.
