Does anyone else use Ultra Clean Stamp Cleaner? I just LOVED this stuff because it cleaned even OLD stained stamps like new but I just re-ordered some and it's blue in color (other was clear) and the smell is SO strong it gives me a headache from the fumes! It also doesn't seem to work as well. Just wondering if anyone else has found this to be true. I plan to contact the company and ask as well.
Weird ... I have noticed that some of my bottles are more blue and some are more clear ... but I havent noticed any difference when using them. Hopefully someone else has some comments about this, I'd like to know too. I LOVE the stuff.
Well I am floored that not 5 minutes ago I got a PHONE CALL from someone at Stewart Superior regarding my email!! He wanted to know all about my concerns and gave me their UPS number and asked that I send the cleaner to him so they can look into it! They have had no other complaints either so that is even more impressive that they would go to the trouble to contact just ONE person with concerns. They said they have not made any changes to the formula. He also was well acquainted with SCS as I mentioned that I was asking if others were having the same issues. I'll let you all know what I find out once they get my cleaner!

After reading all the hoopla about Ultra Clean here on SCS, I decided to give it a try. I had remembered seeing it at Archiver's, but when I went in to pick up a bottle, I noticed that all the bottles were various shades of light gray-ish to violet. Not knowing which one would be the "right" color, I just picked one and brought it home. OMG - the smell was AWFUL! It most definitely gave me a headache after only ten minutes, and I work with OMS all the time and it NEVER bothers me the way the Ultra Clean did! It was just terrible. Since this is my first time using it, I have no way of knowing whether or not it's not cleaning as well... I think it did a great job cleaning my stained stamps. But between the smell and the oilines to it, I had to go back to my regular cleaner and just use the Ultra Clean for things like used stamp purchases or old stamps that are really badly stained. So basically, I use it VERY rarely. LOL  Let us know what you hear!
You can get it at a lot of local stamp stores but I usually get mine from addictedtorubberstamping.com --it's pricey but up until this problem -- it's by far the best I've ever used. It IS oily but I find that only helps to condition the rubber. I have had stamps stained black from years of use and after cleaning with this stuff -- most look almost new. Just get a small bottle though in case yours is extra 'stinky' like mine was. I'm sending it back to the company tomorrow at their request so we'll see!
I thought it was just me. My first bottle of UltraClean was purplish in color and it worked really well. I recently got a refill bottle, and it is blue, and it doesn't seem to clean as well. But I can't compare them side-by-side, because I poured the new stuff into the old bottle, mixing the new stuff with what was left of the old stuff.
I am eager to hear what they say about your bottle when they get it.

that is weird, I got mine a while ago (like a year to year and a half) from my local stamp store (the are no longer in buisness) but mine is definately clear. I know Gina K. sells it in her store: www.stampingfreak.com

I just bought the large refill from Gina K & it seems to work as well and look about the same as what I had previously. It's the best cleaner I've ever found. Mine does not have a strong odor.
My first bottles were more dark purple and the last one I got was light blue. I thought maybe it was my imagination that it didn't work as well.
Mine too, and my second bottle (the blue one) smelled very much like Windex...glad it's not just me.... It didn't seem to be as "oily" as the first bottle I had either....
The Angel Company carries it too, and it is the BEST cleaner I have ever used....

Reason: added last line...
It's a great cleaner! About the colour, i think it changes with time. I bought 2 bottles a year ago when there was a 50% sale. They were blue colour but after a few months they became colourless but works just as well.
Why, oh why did I click on that link to Gina K's store??? I've been in denial about PTI and Gina K, bellas hit me hard enough! Oh well...there goes my willpower~

The company received my bottle that I sent to them and the guy I spoke with on the phone just sent me an email to confirm that indeed, it does NOT smell like their cleaner should. (I'm glad it's not my imagination!) He has sent the bottle off to one of their chemists to analyze (isn't that cool??) and he will get back to me with their findings. In the meantime, he said he's going to send me some Ultra Clean! Truly, amazing service in today's world isn't it?? I'll keep everyone posted on further information.
I bought my first Ultra Clean probably a year or so ago from Gina K. It is clear/slightly grayish in color with a white label with a bathtub on it. I just got a new bottle from Papertrey and it has a blue swirly label on it and is the same color and smell as the previous bottle. No strong odor at all, just a cleanser type of smell.
Will be curious to see what the guy says about your bottle of cleaner.

That is SUBERB service! Yes please let us know. It sounds like their quality control messed up somewhere. Thank you for this thread
Well, their chemist determined the solution I sent them was NOT their product! They sent me two free bottles though and it is definitely their Ultra Clean! Works great and no strong odor! Unfortunately, I had purchased mine online from several different sites and can't remember for sure where I got the 'bad' bottle since I bought it awhile ago and I buy things from alot of online companies. However, I think I will get future ones from TAC since at least I will have contact with a person and can have someone to contact if it is not the real thing. All that said, I have to compliment Stewart Superior for outstanding customer service!!!
Thanks for the update, how strange! I will definitely watch where I buy mine from. I think the original I bought is from Gina K.
We purchase ours directly from Stewart Superior. They did change the label at one point but the product is still the same as far as I can tell.
I've heard of stuff like that from the Beauty industry too. They say when you buy professional products from discount stores, they can't guarantee that it's the real product. One company said that they threw away tons of defective bottles and someone came along and stole them out of their dumpsters, filled them with knock-off shampoo and sold it as the original stuff through a department store chain!
We buy directly from Stewart so we don't have to worry about stuff like that.
Scarey, huh?

Funny that I should find this post. I bought my first Stewart's bottle about 2 months ago from Gina. I had heard and seen soooo much about it-getting off ink from wood blocks etc. However I have been disappointed with my bottle and find that it doesn't work as well as my CTMH acrylix cleaner (yes, I used the acrylix cleaner on my rubber-don't shoot me) I found the solution to have a strong smell-but I am very sensitive to odors. The scent fills my dining room after two sprays onto my stamp scrubber pad.
Hmmm..maybe I should order another bottle from GinaK to see if I just had a bad batch. For the sake of a few dollars I don't like to make a big fuss. But it would be great if I could get the ink marks off my wood-I've cleaned my stamps right after stamping and it still doesn't take off the ink. This was contrary to what I'd heard and seen before with Stewarts.
Hi OakvilleMom ... it doesnt clean the ink off of the wood, only the rubber. And it cleans the rubber SUPER CLEAN. I dont know of anything that will clean the ink off the wood. I've heard of people sanding the wood down to get rid of stains, but really, it doesnt affect your stamping at all and it just shows that our stamps are well loved and well used!
I'm so glad to see this thread. I bought my Ultra Clean from PTI quite some time ago. I just love it. I had just been using baby wipes before and I can see that the scrubber and the Ultra Clean really do a better job. My Ultra Clean is clear and does not have any strong smell. I'm glad that I will know what to watch for when I have to purchase a refill bottle. Will be careful who I order from.
I order all my ultra clean through Hero Arts. It is bottled by Stewart for Hero Arts, so it has the Hero Arts label on it. I have gotten multiple colors from them: blue, purple, pink and white. I haven't smelled any of it, however. I always assumed it may be an issue of light or temperature that changes it. Perhaps the colorant they use is sensitive to light.

Where did you get the information that it is bottled by Stewart for Hero Arts? It looks very similar, though.
