Tools and Sally's beauty supply and bargains-long

I'm always on the lookout for "things" aka tools to make my stamping easier or more convenient. Since, I'm fairly new to this stamping thing, I've made some big boo boo's for sure. Now so far my greatest love is prismacolors w/gamsol. (I use turpenoid as a personal choice but the technique is exactly the same.)
I've accidently spilled some turpenoid --yikes! Then I found a small bottle with a sponge on top at Staples-works ok for a time, but the turpenoid disolved the glue that holds the sponge in place....heavy sigh. Geez, I wake up in the middle of the night and think about this stuff.
I went to our local Sallys beauty supply today and picked up a little gadget for $2 that will dispense my turpenoid onto my blender stump. Manicurists use acetone nail polish in them, so I know my turpenoid will be ok. My turpenoid comes in a plastic container too. The best part of this is that it has a lid so if I knock it over by accident it won't spill. I also picked up some heavy duty nail files to file my blending stumps. I've been using freebies that banks and stuff give out, but they don't last long at all. Then I found a pair of reusable gloves to dye my own grosgrain ribbon for $1 (Saw that cool video somewhere onSCS)
Anyway, you guys continue to inspire me to stretch my imagination even when I'm not stamping.

I'll have to go to Sally's now and get one of those dispensers! I put DD on the lookout for one of those alcohol dispensers they used to use in doctors offices but those were probably discontinued ages ago.

The good thing about the dispenser is that no turpenoid will come out unless you pump it. Good for me as, I'm always knocking stuff over. It also should travel in my goodie box without spilling so I could go over to a friends or something.

I have one of those pump things that I bought at walmart for my nail polish remover a couple of years ago. it is made of plastic but I don't know if you can put turpenoid.

I have a small, heavy glass jar that my grandma saved for me. It had some sort of face cream in it. It's only about an inch high and perhaps 2 inches in diameter. I put a couple cotton pads in it like you use for removing makeup. Then I poured in enough OMS just to soak the pads. I can press the stump against the wet pad and see it soak up just far enough.

It works great! It's small and heavy and short so there's not much danger of tipping it over. I can just set the lid back on it to slow the evaporation and don't have to have the whole bottle open.

The turpenoid I use is less harmful than fingernail polish for sure. Turpenoid is a petroleum by product (think liquid vaseline). The brand of Turpenoid I use is sold in plastic.

Michelle, I am more worried about little fingers at my house investigating, if ya get my drift. I do know that turpenoid evaporates quickly and I know me, I would forget to put the lid back.:rolleyes: This has a flip top but must be pumped before anything would come out of it. I've knocked over more stampin stuff in the last couple of weeks (sure sign I need to reorganize, but I don't want to take the time cuz I wanna stamp) so I just wanted it out of the way.

Also look for sanding blocks there (AKA buffing blocks)

I had actually thought of this when I was getting a manicure -- but didn't realize that those little holders were only $2 and could be bought at Sally's -- I'm off to get one -- TFS
