Default Tonic 12" Trimmer Question

I just received my Tonic trimmer and was wondering about the finger guards (or paper clamp) used to press down firmly to ensure the paper doesn't move while cutting - is this paper clamp suppose to be sitting above the trimmer kind of loose or are the two silver knobs at each end suppose to be tightened down somehow so the clamp is more stable? My paper clamp is quite moveable and sits up above the trimmer and can be pushed down when cutting paper but then pops up and is loose again. Is there something defect about my trimmer?

Mine is that way, too. I think it's so that you can slide the CS you are cutting under it easily when measuring. I just figured it's supposed to be that way.

You do not tighten it, it is supposed to be loose like it comes.

HTH

Another tip for this cutter is to be sure you hold the paper down tightly and when you bring the arm down make sure you are bringing it down evenly towards the left so it is tight against the cutting edge that your paper is laying on.

HTH. too

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info. I was thinking mine may be defective too. I was wondering about the cutting, because if you just pull the blade down, it doesn't necessarily do too good, but if you pull it down with left pressure, so it goes next to the edge, much better.

Thanks gals for your input - I'll use it as it is! I did a lot of reading on SCS trying to find information on the best paper trimmer, and this one came up several times with lots of great reviews! I'm glad I ordered it!

I have this one too...when you pick up the arm does it hold itself up or do you have to hold it up? The first week or so it would stay suspended if I picked it up and moved my hand, now I have to hold it up with one hand while I try to setup my paper.
