I've seen these in the stores and would really like to try them in my shiny new Big Shot but really don't understand how they work as far as lining them up with the edge of your paper, etc. I know I've used the other big dies in my machne but these seem so small and narrow. I hope I've explained myself clearly and don't seem dense but I would really l;ike some hints. Thanks.
They're narrow simply because you're only cutting an edge, not a shape - you only need the edge of the paper in contact with the die, the rest of your paper is just hanging off the die, if you see what I mean. There's a good video demo by Scrapbooking Made Simple on YouTube here.
You can get cutting plates that are sized especially for the On the Edge dies but they're not strictly necessary. You can see on the video that she's using the regular plates. I do the same and haven't had any problems.
I purchased a Tim Holtz edge die and I cannot get it to line up evenly. The majority of the times when I use one of the edges, the cardstock slips a bit and the edge is not even. I went back to the LSS and told one of the ladies my problem and she told me I just had to be careful not to let the paper move once it was sandwiched. Well, her paper moved after it was sandwiched so her edge was a little crooked, too. After wasting quite a few card bases, I put that die in the cabinet and there it stays.
I use temporary blue painters tape to hold my card base in place until I run it through my Cuttlebug and Bigshot as well. Works like a charm....Don't give up!!! They are beautiful on the edge of cards...Blessings...

I second this recommendation. I use it for ALL my die cutting when I want things to stay in place. It does not take that much tape to do the trick. You may also want to pat on your clothing so that the tape is even more temporary.
I want to thank all of you for your input....I watched the video and the idea of using the tape sounds really good. I guess I will just have to get up the courage and try one of these...wis me luck. If there anymore hints out there, I am still open for ideas!!
