Default Teaching Copic classes; what to charge?

I tried to start a new topic in the Copic thread but couldn't figure out how so am posing this question here - hope it's not in the wrong place!

I am a certified Copic instructor (as of last fall) but haven't taught any classes as yet. I've been contacted by some people who have been collecting the markers and want some beginner classes and I'm excited about doing this - but I don't have a clue as to what to charge! We will probably have 2-3 classes of about 3 hours or so duration, I'm thinking ( any advice in this area would be appreciated!). Anyone who is certified to teach this, can you give me some input as to where to begin with pricing my classes?

Thanks SO much to anyone who can help!

Claudia,

Congratulations on your certification. Remember to continue practicing and playing with those markers!

As for classes... price is a tough thing... and it depends on a lot of factors. Here are the things I tell teachers to consider when pricing.

#1 - How long have you been using the product and what is your skill level. Obviously someone who is extremely talented is going to be able to set a higher price than someone who is at a beginner or intermediate level.

#2 - What type of teaching background or experience do you have. Same concept as #1.

#3 - What information will be covered in the class? Will it be informational or project based? If project based, who is supplying the product for the projects? What is the cost to you for the product? Who is designing the projects? What skill level are the projects?

#4 - How long is the class? What else is included? (snacks, handouts, tutorial sheets)

#5 - How much are similar classes running for in your area? This is the most important one... do your research... find out what stores are charging for similar classes...then adjust yours up or down depending on all of the previous points.

#6 - The biggest tip I can give you is to BE PREPARED! If you are approaching a store, have your classes completely ready to teach. Show them the examples of the projects and any additional materials, have the price set, have a written contract ready to go. Be Professional.

I hope that helps!
