Get on over to Target and pick up a pack of 40 colored Bic Markers. They are on sale this week for only $11!
I have this set and like it a lot. They are permanent markers, alcohol based like Prisma or Copic. I can't justify the cost of the Copics, and I've really enjoyed using this set!

I got a set of these yesterday after reading your post and watching the video. Much to my dismay one of the markers is bone dry. I am going to contact Bic for a replacement. Grrrrrr!! Just in trying them out I know that I am going to like them. I like the colors and am happy to now have an apple/ime green and aqua...just the colors I have been longing to find in a marker set. Thanks for the heads up on this sale.

oh wow! i just got my first taste of copics on Sat & got 8 and really can't justify spending to get more now so this would be fabululous if it's a similar effect!

You are such an enabler!!! I went to Target and got both sets of Bic and Sharpie markers last night! I have been wanting Copics, but just couldn't justify the cost since my coloring is not really very good (yet). This gives me lots of colors and the video tutorial in this thread was just wonderful. It really gave me the itch to try this shading technique. Thanks.

WOW - I was just at Target. Looks like another trip is in store for me. I was so stoked to find an endcap of Faber Castell pencils. I really love them and usually pick them up at HL.

Hrm, I can't get the Bic coupon to work. I installed the "coupon printer" and it said successfully installed, but whenever I click on the coupon and then try to print, it prompts me to install the coupon printer again. I went thru the troubleshooting and can't find the problem. I'm using Firefox and Vista, both of which are supposed to be supported.
The permanent alcohol markers (Bic, Sharpie) and copics are actually not acidic they are "basic". They are not a neutral pH.....
Some interpret archival safe to mean that they won't damage photos. My understanding is that these types of markers will become more pH neutral as they dry (the solvent will evaporate and just leave the ink behind)....so they are OK to use on paper and then put those items in a scrapbook...but it's not really a good idea to use directly on a photo.
Another interpretation of archival safe to some means lightfast and will last a long time in their scrapbook. These pens will fade over time and faster when exposed to direct light.
HTH.

Thanks for the info! I got mine this morning with a $1 off coupon that was in the Sunday newspaper. 40 markers for $10..Sweet! And I love all the colors.
I just got mine today and used the $3 coupon too. I've only played a little with them but they work well. Love all the different colors. Colors are pretty bright- wish they were softer. I can't afford Copics so this will have to do for now.
Got mine and used the coupon too. I even had a left over gift card from Christmas and it had $7.00 on it. So really they only cost me a buck! YEA!And thanks so much for posting this great info!
Thanks so much for the info! I just picked up two sets- one for me and one for my BFF! I would love Copics but they aren't in the budget right now- but I figured I could squeeze $11 out of my wallet.
