Default Taking the Plunge on Copics

I've decided to start investing in Copics. I have a few of the basic Sketch markers like flesh, a blender, skin, etc. I need some opinions as far as what could be considered a good "starter" set. I have a printout of what Copic matches which SU. Our HL has an extremely small selection and they don't even match up with each other. Mike's doesn't carry them at all. I have to go to Clarksville TN tomorrow and will be Goggling for craft stores there, so if any of you know of any, please let me know. Thank you for your help!

Default Using Copic Markers

Hi, I have been looking at the Copic Markers and today I got the free info from the Copic Website. I have been trying to decide which colors to get first and you mention knowing Copic colors that match SU colors. Where do you get that info. I would like to try a few out and getting colors that go with SU colors would be really nice. Let me know how to get that info, I would really appreciate it. Megz Mom

I think that Ellen Hutson's store had created sets of copics that she has tried hard to match up with the SU colours.. I have just ordered some copics from her - very fast service.. sorry I don't have a live link - but just google her - and if you have any questions - she is great.. I just ordered various fill in colours - but I am sure that as you explore her site - she does say that she has created sets of 12 that she felt were as close as you could get to SU colours . She is very well regarded.

Here is the link to her store.. I would email her through her store address and ask her which of her many designer sets are the SU equivalents.

Remember also that Copics work a bit differently than SU pans so just getting the same colors as SU's may not end up being what you are looking for. I would recommend getting a set with colors you like and use often. If you color people or flowers get bright colors. If you color backgrounds or trees and leaves get muted colors. Remember that the grays can be used over the bright colors to blend and mute them.

A page or two back lisa foster posted ISO Copic/SU Conversion chart and someone answered her there. Sorry I don't know how to put the link in here.
I just ordered 22 markers. I got the SU-like colors that I use the most. I also picked a few colors that I knew I would use for flowers. I still want to get a very pale blue for sky and try willow to see if it matches Wasabi better. I buy mostly Ciao markers and get the sketch in colors not available in Ciao.
Including shipping my order came to $71.54 I think I got two sketch. It took a bit of time to get them. I still have to get a blender. They were not in stock and they do not backorder. They are very nice to deal with though.

The best color of copic markers that I have is skin white. I can't live without it.

OOPS!
I was a little tired when I posted last night.
I got my Copics at Eclectic Paperie.
Sorry to leave out thew most important piece of information!!!

One correction - I got 21 markers(not 22) - 2 sketch (4.99ea)and the rest Ciao ($2.99ea).
They are very good about adjusting the shipping. It is based on the total order, but if it can it will be sent for less. It gets adjusted when the order is processed. My shipping dropped from $8.25 to $4.75.
When you order they usually have their processing time posted somewhere.

emeraldmj- You got Copic Ciao markers from Eclectic Paperie for 2.99 each? I just checked their site, and I see the price listed as 3.49 each. Is there something I don't know?

They were $2.99 ea when I ordered them on May 20 from Eclectic Paperie.

You can also try www.COPICmarkerS.com (Period Style)
The Ciao are $2.99 each and shipping should be free for 12+ markers.
I ordered from EP because some of the ones at PS were out of stock.

You can also request a Copic color chart by e-mail from Period Style.
Mine came pretty quickly in the mail.

I was very tempted to order from carpediemstore.com, but their shipping prices are high. Like $12. For markers!

I agree and at first, I was ready to purchase my set from the Carpe Diem store but once I calculated shipping, I realized that it would cost just as much as other stores. I did some research and found a Japanese online store http://www.japanesemarker.jp/product-list/1. It's the cheapest that I've found. I'm very satisfied with shipment time and packaging. If anyone knows of another place to purchase Sketch markers for a lower price then please share. I've posted this on other threads, but thought I mention it here just in case.

Copics are always $2.99 here.
I bought some from EP when they had a sale a few months back for $2.99 as well.

AAAAW what a tease! :p Only the Ciao's are $2.99. I wish the Sketch Markers were that cheap. I hate to admit it, but I got so excited I was ready to buy another set. lol

I am a little late on this thread, but someone else may be interested! I've ordered from www.COPICmarkerS.com and was pleased. However, when I went back to buy a set of Ciao markers they were always out. :(
After a google search I found www.AnimeOC.com and got a Ciao 36D set cheaper and with excellent shipping. I received a $5 off coupon and upgraded shipping with my first order.
