The book says that Basic Black is 'waterproof'---but I have used it and it sometimes runs or bleeds. I only use black Stazon--I'm a demo for SU!

I mostly use Palette Hybrid inks and they don't smear and I watercolor most of the cards I make using an aquapainter or blender pen to blend. I like to stamp with the Noir black or the Burnt Umber inks. The inks clean off your stamps really well too. I use a mixture of half Simple Green, half water and a few drops of glycerin in a small spray bottle to clean my stamps. The glycerin is supposed to condition your stamps or that was the info I read. I am slowly building up my stash and right now clean my stamps on a paint pad refill. I use one to clean the stamps on and one to dry them.

Hmm-you just asked about SU inks and I haven't used them to wc.

SU has 3 Classic inks that are waterproof. They can all be found in the neutral color family.

Basic Black
Basic Brown
Basic Gray

I have both Basic Brown and Basic Black. I've watercolored with them and never had a problem with running or bleeding.

The neutrals that are labeled as permanent are, as long as you give them time to dry first. Most of the time I'm in a hurry and so I grab my StazOn ink so I can keep moving!! All the other colors are waterbased and you can watercolor with them. You can use your blender pens or aquapainter. You definitely have options! Hope that helps.

Meeee toooo.... I love them both for stamping the main image then watercoloring around and within the image. I also like Stazon (and can get it off my stamps with a spritz of Ultraclean stamp cleaner). All of the above will work for watercoloring around...None of the above will work for using as watercolors.

Stampin up's other ink comes in two kinds, classic and craft. The classic ink is water based (not water proof) and works really well for the coloring part of watercoloring. Most people usually get a bit of color onto their brush or aqua painter by squooshing the lid into the pad, others buy the reinkers and put a drop or two of that into the lid of the pad as a palette.

The craft ink is a pigment ink and does not work well for using as a watercolor color. It's not permanent enough when dry though to take water, so it won't work as an image base.

Fffewwww... big explaination and I hope that helps!

One thing I've done lately is stamp with any old color I want, and if it's not waterproof, I give it light spritz of workable fixative. That keeps the ink from running.

Lynn (Ibirus): Thanks for the tip on craft inks. I was wondering the same thing just days ago-- if you can use a craft pad for prismas/gamsol. I just do not like the color of the Stazon Timber Brown. It has kind of a green tinge to it. I really like the chocolate chip color and was hoping to use that.

Anyhow, thanks again for the tip!!! I'll have to look for something in the lines of chocolate in another brand...

Yep, try the Basic Brown from SU, (it's not choc chip or close to cocoa) and as we said above, it's waterproof...yipee!
