Default Stampin Up Punch Problem

One of my Stampin Up Punches (that locks down for easier storage) has gotten locked down. Any suggestions on how to get it unlocked? Other than bashing it against the floor? (just kidding) All helpful hints accepted. thanks

you can try putting it in the freezer for a bit. sometimes the metal in the punches swells and sticks, and the freezer helps to shrink the metal again. hope you can get it to work again!

Freezing.
Hitting it against the floor will sometimes work as well. Really. (if it's jammed, what do you have to lose?)

Call the demo you purchased it from. She can call SU! for you.

I'm not sure exactly how to fix this problem, except to say that SU! has an excellent customer service policy. They truly stand by their products and often send replacements no question asked. I have had a customer with a stamp set problem and a new one was in the mail within minutes of my call to SU Customer Service. They didn't even require the marred one to be returned. If a punch is not operational....I would give them a call!

Yes, if you can't get in touch with your demonstrator just call Stampin' Up! They should be able to help you--they are wonderful!

It could be that there is a tiny piece of paper lodged in there and that is why it won't open. I had that happen to one of mine. I literally smacked it on the table and it popped open. The paper came out and the punch has worked fine ever since.

Thanks, gals. The freezer trick and my DH's strong hand made it work. Have used it for a couple of days now, and no problems.

Nice accolades to SU's customer service.

Smile Thank You!!!!!

Thank you sooooo much for this information. I stuck my punch in the freezer for about 5 minutes or so then threw it on the floor a couple times and now it works beautifully!!!! I never ever would have thought to do this. Thanks again!!!!!

Just in case it happens again and someone is not willing to risk their floor (LOL), one thing I recommend is to check the sides of the hinge area. There should be a small round cap covering where a pin runs through the punch and holds everything in place. Sometimes, these caps come out and the pin moves a little. You can just get a pen or small screwdriver and push the pin back in to place.

I'm very disappointed in the lack of longevity of the EK Success border punches. (They make the Martha Stewart and Stampin' Up punches.) One by one, mine are starting to stick, jam, and become misaligned. I know and have tried all the tricks, but they only work sometimes. I've had to to throw 2 of them away recently. The Fiskars border punches hold up much better, IMHO.

My 2 cents and fiskars truely stands by their product. All their customers service asked is for a picture of the damage product and in seven days I got a new punch in the mail . Didn't even have to send the broken one back. Sad to say much as I like EK Success I feel these newer punches that locks are not as stronger then their older made ones. I love SU and for the price I think they should replace like fiskars does and maybe many has had theirs replaced free. In my case my owl punch wasn't replaced free they offered to replace at a discount . And guess what? The new punch is doing the same thing , not cutting crisp lil circles like the one it replaced. The problem with the bad one was the same it kept getting stuck and the medium circles were cutting ragged. I also did all the tricks too. And had to keep doing the freezer one because it did help for a bit but had to keep doing it everytime it jammed and it start to become often. And my common sense finally won over about keep putting it in the freezer where it becomes moist and moisture to metal eventually over time rust will set in to metal. So I went ahead and took the sad deal because I love that owl punch so much . Hate to see it retire. Hope I didn't upset any demo or SU For be honest about how I feel about for the price we pay that replacement should be like fiskars. Providing it wasn't abuse that cause the product to broke but just basic malfunctions.

Agree you don’t even have to go through your demo. I’ve had SU items arrive damaged bc they weren’t packaged well, and just emailed SU. They replaced them. Actually, once they replaced the wrong item in the order, so replaced the right one afterwards, and didn’t have me mail back the wrong one, though I offered.

I don’t have many SU items, but appreciated the CS response. And my demo would have handled it for me or stepped in if SU hadn’th helped. Neither of us are impressed with their packing, however. A punch came in a plastic bag, nothing to protect it. It was damaged. And twice CS corners were badly bent, also because of nothing to secure or cushion the packs.

I just threw away a long retired SU Slot punch. While I was punching some SU CS.
the little lever that you pushed to punch locked down and was loose. when I flipped it over I saw the metal cutting area had snapped off. The punch was very old but hardly used like the majority of my punches. I couldn't believe that an SU punch broke while punching their brand CS. Very disappointing!

I haven't had the best of luck with EK Success punches either. A multi-piece punch I bought locked up the first time it was opened - something misaligned and I couldn't get the punch to close again. It never even saw paper. Another I had, just a simple square, got jammed so badly cutting that it required replacement. Mostly it's been the big punches. I haven't had any issues with ones ~1" and smaller. All in all I've had less problems with wafer dies and prefer those. Easier to store, less expensive too.

Punches are mostly reserved for the shapes I use hundreds of times (circles) or that aren't easy to use with a press (corner punches).
