Buy the acetate sheets that people once used (HA) for overhead projectors. You can buy a small package at office supply stores. Cut them down to usable sizes. I have a file for those sets I use regularly. OR if you have access to a teacher/school, they won't miss a few. Very few people still use overheads anymore. I am a relic though....
I use all types of clear packaging that I cut into the needed size. I am an avid recycler and have never had to buy an imaging sheet. My husband gave me a set of gardening tools and as I was breaking down the box to put in the trash, I looked at the large, clear plastic window and started thinking.... Then I cut that window up and now I have sheets to put in a lot of stamp sets. Then I can make reusable imaging sheets with Staz on ink and file them with the stamp set. Look around at the packaging that you throw away almost every day and I'll bet that you will see the possibilities, too!
If you buy unmounted sets (on cling foam) and don't store them on the original sheet - those sheets make great imaging sheets as they're very sturdy and easy to handle
Jutta's right, I have used the plastic that Bacon comes on. Altho, not all bacon pkgs have it--you have to look. It also works well for making your own stensils.

Yes to the bacon plastic liner
I use those for cutting mats as well.

I've used vellum too. I bought several packs of vellum sheets from the dollar store, and recently from the dollar store a bought a package of Fiskar's Parchment sheets (includes twelve 6 X 9 sheets) for 50 cents each! They were in the wedding/crafts section. They're much thicker than standard parchment paper, and work perfectly with the stamp-a-ma-jig!
Blank stencil sheets work very well, because they're the same thickness as the SAMJ sheets. They butt into the corner of the SAMJ easily - I've had problems getting thinner materials butted up properly. Hadn't thought of the sheets that come with bacon - great idea!

I stamp my image on staz-on on a little square of transperancy that i cut down. I can stamp one image on each of the 4 corners and then I just keep it right in the clamshell for the set, then I always have it ready to go!
I use vellum, this seems to work great for me. And I just keep the vellum together with the stamp set. Saves time when you want to use that image again!
