Default Small Tape Runner aka Snail Type Question

As many of you know, I have a YouTube page for crafters with physical limitations called Crafting for Almost Everyone. I've been getting questions about small tape runners and which ones I recommend.
I try to do product comparisons and would like to find some tape runners that you recommend to compare on the channel.

I have loved the snails, but lately something is happening to them and I'm not sure if any of you have seen this. My snails seem to work fine until about 1/3 of the way through, then they get gummed up and stop working. I've cleaned the areas the tape will touch and still ruined at least two or three of the refills as they just won't work. I'm not sure what's going wrong, but wondered if any of you have had this problem and if maybe my snails are old (although I don't think they are, maybe at most 1-2 years as I bought a lot at one point)..

Hi Sandy,
I have not used the snail tape runners so I am sorry I cannot respond to that question. However, I use/recommend the Duck brand Permanent Easy Stick (I purchase the 4pk at Joann's with a 50% off coupon) tape runner. I find them easy to use and hold my cards together well. I think I have only had a handful of "defective" ones in the 10+ years I have used them.
Would love to know what you think of these in comparison to other tape runners!

Sandy, I've had this problem with so many different brands of tape runners. I finally found one I love - Tombow Mono Dot Pattern Adhesive Runner; I get them on Amazon and in over 2 years have not had even one get gummed up or stopped working. I get the refills there too in a 3 pack.

Check Jennifer McQuire's blog because she just recommended one in the last week or so. Dotliner

Here is my most used adhesive:
PLUS Glue Tape TG-620BC - Better than liquid glue or paste

I like it because it has a dot-pattern, it holds really well and refills are available through a few places (Simon Says Stamp, for example, as well as Office Supply website, where they can be bought in bulk). I found it easy to refill, without having to twist and turn bits to fiddle with the tape. I did have a couple of occasions where the dispenser got a little gummy, but it was very simple to clean and it didn't affect the runner a whole lot due to the dot pattern (at most, you'd see a thinner dispensed line).

My second recommendation is Tombow MONO dot adhesive:
MONO Adhesive Dots - Adhesives + Glues - Art + Craft

What I like about this one is similar to the first -- available via several stores, including Amazon, and the dot pattern. I've found that the refills for this one are very affordable (packs of 3, and great to stock up on during sales) and simple to switch out. The refills come with their own dispenser area, so if you get any gummy spots, they won't transfer to the next refill.

Lastly, I've also tried the Scotch Adhesive Dot Roller:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VBXC38/

This one might be a good option to those that can find refills in their local stores (I know my Walmart and Michael's carry it). I grabbed a pack from Amazon to just tried out, and found it to be very strong and easy to dispense.

Hope that helps!

Update: Favorite Adhesive + Giveaway - Jennifer McGuire Ink
Ditto what Arlene posted. (I use the pink Tombow stamp runner shaped like a Pez dispenser that Jennifer had recommended for ages and it's perfect - dots can be rubbed off if a mistake is made, sticks well, comfortable wider grip. But it's been discontinued. Write to Tombow if you want to bring it back.)

I have tons of refills but will switch to the longer of the two that Jennifer now recommends in its place when the time comes. I had emailed her to ask which is closer in size to the Tombow, since I have a minor injury at the base of my thumb and some arthritis, and both narrow grips like other Tombows, and ATGs hurt.

If you want to try it, shop around; prices vary.

There is a brand called Stix2, which I have been using for a few years now, and keep repurchasing as I am very happy with how it performs. Both temporary and permanent.
Another brand I find good is Crafters Companion. This one I have only used the permanent.
I also like the ADTech tape runner, recommended on here by Gregzgurl, for temporarily attaching naked rubber stamps.

Darn it...JM talked about another choice that was not officially released when she did the Dotliner rec that she says is as good or better and I cant find the vid..it's in a regular card making one. Also able to rub off w finger or gently pull apart paper to re-align it if you have not pressed it down hard.

Maybe someone else will know which one it was...
