Sizzix Framelits
Hey girls,
I just noticed OMC having the new sizzix framelits (well their email said new) come in.. Oh My Crafts - Framelits
Has anyone tried these? If so are they like the spellbinder ones?
And I thought there was a huge court case against other companies making nesting dies???

The court case was, I believe, between Spellbinders and Quickutz for the open-die style. Apparently, the case didn't go Spellbinders' way because Leisure Crafts (who bought out QK), some independent companies, and now Sizzix sell the open-die style.
I saw some video from CHA and the Sizzix Framelits look very much like (meaning, identical except for color) Spellbinders. The inside cutting edge is VERY close to the edge, which will be great for framing the stamped image. (Spellbinders has just a bit of an overhang, which is great for embossing.)
I have all the nested basic shapes I need because I got hooked on Spellbinders years ago, but I'm definitely going to get a couple of the Framelit stamp & die sets.
And the Sizzix Flip-Its are also on my Must Have list!

Just found out about these. Am I understanding that you cannot emboss the shapes with the Framelits?

Their description says:
These wafer-thin chemical-etched die sets feature the perfect print registration without interference from any ridges at the edge of the die opening.
This video:
CHA Summer 2011 - Sizzix Framelits, Stamps and Die Sets - YouTube
Says that the cutting edge is on the very inside of the flat metal piece, not in the center like spellbinders.
So, no embossing, and easy to stamp first and cut after...more accurate.

OK. I made a mistake. I watched most of the Sizzix videos from CHA.
I am so in trouble.
Now I wish we had a store that carried it all...so I could walk in and see it all at once!

Thanks Diane. I'm with you - I wish I were a bazillionaire so I could buy any stamping stuff I wanted. Have a great day.

I got a set at CHA and they cut nice and clean. I don't emboss much so that isn't an issue for me. I do like how you can see exactly where the cut line is.

Help! I'm new to the BS, and I'm trying to get my Sizzix Framelits to cut. What am I doing wrong? Could someone tell me how to create a sandwich to cut these? Even the Sizzix website doesn't explain! Thanks!

Okay, finally figured it out! Thanks! I picked up some super cute Hero Arts/Sizzix sets, and can't wait to play!

This explains a lot. But, if I'm understanding this correctly, it's also a huge deal in our little paper-crafting world. I mean, doesn't that pretty much spell the end of a Spellbinders' monopoly? That means any stamp company can make open dies to match their own stamps now, right? Sky is the limit?
