I want to cut out stencils with my Cameo...what material is the best to use?

Well, hate to say this, but customer service wasn't so excellent yesterday. After detailing everything in an "I need help now" chat to them, their only response was to send me what looked like a canned response to have me send them a video of the problem on a platform I was unfamiliar with.


I ended up having my husband help me after he got home from work. He found a youtube video that showed how to fix the problem I was having. So the end result was they didn't help me, especially when I needed it (I needed to have a card done last night) and instead they gave me a complicated way of not taking the time then to help me.
So, no, I was not really pleased with them yesterday.

I'm sorry you had this problem, and I feel your pain. I am glad (so to speak) that I'm not the only one having problems with customer service. Sometimes I think I am. I hope they can help both of us. I haven't received even an acknowledgment of my email yet.

On a happier note, I found a wonderful video showing how to cut out stamped images with my Cricut, so I'll be using that. I'll reserve my Portrait for Silhouette Studio files and projects that I've already saved. It's so disappointing, but I'm glad I didn't invest in a more expensive Silhouette product.

Glad you were able to figure that out with the Cricut.

I love my Silhouette, and I'm hopeful that this glitch will be fixed in an upcoming update (preferably soon).

Someone from Silhouette answered me, but with the same instructions I've been following. Good lighting, flat surface, yadda yadda. Never addressed the issue of the alignment grid pattern not printing correctly. He said to send him the image I'm using if I continue to have trouble. Oh, well, at least someone answered me.

I imagine their customer service is pretty busy dealing with new owners of the 4 at the moment. All those tools..... Having worked in IT I don't expect great things from free customer service. I suspect troubleshooting the calibration printing issue thoroughly would have been very time consuming for both you and them. If you did decide later you wanted to take it further, perhaps you could get sometime to mail you one. Chances are the calibration pattern is the same in older software. Anyway I'm glad you can do what you want to without getting into a world of IT hurt.

I have watched a couple of the cricut stamp cutting out videos.
The method of using a 1" square you draw to calibrate a scanned-in image (to make a cut that you then stamp on ) is something that could be done on the Silhouette I think, without pixscan. That was in this one, Tiffany :

What I would like to do with pixscan is cut out an image that's already made, such as on scrapbooking paper. That needs the pixscan's ability to put a cut on exactly the right place on the mat.

well I got the pixscan to calibrate after a number of attempts, putting the phone close enough to the paper that the dots filled the entire screen, as advised by Silhouette School.
After a number of tries photographing the mat under good light I still got a blank design.
Guess what? The latest software fixes a bug that made that happen for the Portrait. After updating the software it works at last, using the November 1 Silhouette Studio update.

This update is the one that caused my Silhouette Cameo 2/Studio to not pull my Pixscan mat far enough in for my Silhouette to recognize the registration marks--so now I have to manually set it to each image I want it to cut.
