We moved in June, and I have not taken it out of its box yet. I used it before that, but haven't even thought about it for almost a year. My sister called when the carts went on sale for $40 to see which ones she should get me, and after I thought about it, I said, "None." There are other things I'd rather have. Does this mean that I am well and truly over it? If I get rid of it will I regret it?

HI Carla,
I'm in the same boat. I've had one since they first came out (was it almost 2 years ago, or 3??). I've used it ONCE and that was the day I got it, just to try it out. It's still sitting in a box and I never use it.
I'm hoping that once I get my craft room finished, that I'll pull it out of the box and start using it. BUT, I'm beginning to wonder if I should even to that?
I'll be looking forward to see what other people say!
I go through phases and get rid of things and then as soon as I do get rid of something, I 'need' it! Also, you know what they say--out of sight, out of mind. Maybe try unpacking it and putting it in a spot where you could use it and see if you actually do. If you don't--get ride of it and buy something you'd like to use ;-) Good luck with whatever you decide!
I can relate. Ive experimented with mine, but have never actually made a card with anything cut by it! I actually listed mine on ebay, only to cancel the auction a day later. Ive think I'll give my Cricut to my sister who will probably get more use out of it.

I was in the same boat with my Cricut until a few months ago and was seriously considering selling it. Then I realized that I was not using it because it was a pain to sit and cut something when I needed something for the card.
Instead, now I use my cricut like my supplier. When I have some time, I go through the cartridges and cut some of the most commonly used stuff - like flowers (from my walk in the garden cartridge) or tags or letters. I have specific zipbags for these and then I hang them from a clip on my shelf.
So, now when I am making a card, when I need flowers, I just pick up the flowers ziploc chose the one that matches the mood of the card and I am all set to go. This way I am using my cricut more and I am also getting rid of quite a few of my unused patterned paper.
I hope this tip helps you a little bit to start using the Cricut.
I just got one a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm wondering why?? It is really neat, and makes such cool die cuts....now what?!
I have it out on my table so it is right there if I need it, but I haven't actually made a card or anything with it yet. Just played around.
lately I feel like I am the opposite.
I've stopped using the alpahbet stamps in lieu of the cricut.
I had to make myself use my stamps and not my cricut so much.
It's so easy to load the paper and hit cut
then glue it down.
I even had to move the cricut to the other table!!!
I love my cricut. The way to use it is to keep it out on a table. I haven't scrapped since I tore my scraproom apart but I have my cricut on a table waiting for me to finish up.
I've been THIS close to posting it on Craig's List...but then I think, what if I decide that I do want it?
We're moving soon, so the next house will have my room more out of the way (in my current house, it's right at the top of the stairs, so everyone sees it). Maybe if I have it out and convenient, I will use it more. If not, then maybe I will finally be convinced to sell it!

I've tought about selling mine sooo many times but then my daughter's kindergarten teacher asked me to help make 15 memory books one for each child and let me tell you after doing them I'm keeping my bug! I found my Xyron is the best for adhesive for the die cuts. Mine has hardly been used for 2 years but as hubby told me I've already spent the money for it, I really do like it even if I don't use it much so just keep it for when I really need it and want it. I don't have to buy any cartridges if I don't want to just use what I have. And it looks great sitting next to my little green bug and there is no way I will part with my cuttlebug I use it way to much
Mine has been sitting too, if I were you
I'd pull it out and use it before making the decision..I'm getting back into scrapping and I know I will use it more. Maybe you just need to play with it again to fall back in love.
I have been using mine for birthday party favors. I precut mats and then use my Cricut to cut out the kids' name. The kids put together the cutest name frames...so instead of sending home plastic junk/candy...they get a nice keepsake. I was going to buy the cricut anyway...whether I used it or not (craft addiction) so this is a great way to get good use out of it. Once it is out of the box, I tend to use it more...but that is true about everything.
I am gasping for air hearing this! OW MY EARS! LOL
No seriously, there are lots of great ways to use your cricut. Like someone before said...take it out one day when your stamping mojo is kaput....
Here are some ideas:
1. Cut out some shapes and sayings in a few different colors and shadows. Then paper piece them together for a cute embellishment on a card.
2. Use letters to make Monogram card sets
3. make tags to use on cards or gift bags
4. buy some inexpensive vinyl and cut out holiday shapes for your windows
5. cut out large shapes and use them as a mask
6. cut out shapes for your kids to use as "stickers"
7. they just came out with "color" cartridges that you can swap out the blade and "draw" the shapes. I made some coloring pages for my kids with it.
When I first got mine I ONLY used it for scrapbooking but lately I have been using it for cards and decorations.

Oh, this thread makes me feel better because I've held off getting one. I have a Big Shot and for what I need it has been just fine. I kept wondering if I was missing out but something kept telling me I just had tool envy. Now, I know I can do just fine without it.
I have thought about it too, but kept telling myself most of my big tool items I don't use. I have a sizzix and rarely use it. Glad I haven't purchased one, that is just to much money to collect dust LOL.
The Cricut wasn't something I would have bought for myself--I have a ton of letter dies and things for my Big Shot. BUT--my son and hubby got it for me for Christmas, and I LOVE it! And I've only barely started to scratch the surface of what all it can do!

Well, I held off forever and finally got one for Christmas! I use it all the time. The only thing I regret was not getting the big one! I do keep it out on the counter so I can use it whenever. It comes in handy for so many things: projects for school, scrapping, cutting a lot of one shape, etc... the only reason I would sell mine would be if I bought the bigger one!
While I don't have a cricut, I do have any other large/expensive "toys" I just had to have and no longer use. With limited space in my craft room, I've taken the attitude that if I haven's used it in a year or more, sell that puppy- get it out of here and put a few $$ into my pocket for something else.
My husband bought me mine with everything to go with it when they first came out. I messed with it for a couple of days then decided I knew I would never get over $350.00 worth of good out of it, so I sold it on ebay and never have regretted it. Now some people use them all the time and love them but, it wasn't for me.
Now, on the other hand I wouldn't give up my Cuttlebug or Scor-pal for nothing. I guess it's whatever you personally like.
I can relate too! I had 2 yard sales so I could buy the Klic-N-Kut element and I have used it but not that much! It is awesome and when you have a big project it is great. I am trying to sell mine :( No takers yet.

I'm right there with you on the Cuttlebug and Scor-pal. I use both of them regularly. Both are convenient to store and easily accessible in my stamping room.
My daughter was over the other day and we had a blast playing with my Bug while making invitations for my granddaughters birthday party! Life is good!
I use my cuttlebug all the time but my cricut i've only used a few times in the last 2 years I have had it. I just bought the disney cartridges and i was gonna buy the pens and cut the pieces out myself. I only make cards so everytime i try to make something too small in it then it rips so thought maybe the pens might be good
I would not recomment getting rid of it. I hardly ever used mine in the last year so I sold it a few months ago. Since then, I have wanted to use it so many times. I would keep it unless you are using the money to replace it with something that would do the same thing only better.
I don't have a cricut but my SIL does have one I can use..........I hardly use it.
I like the flowers, tags and some of the other shapes for cards.......not enough to justify such big machine.
I could see myself use it for scrapbooking, but for now I only do cards.
Maybe you should get it out on the table for a few weeks........if you still don't use it that often: sell it and get some other stamps/tools/??? for you to play with.
I'm glad I found this thread. I am like several of you and have toyed around with selling mine. As soon as I decided to sell it I come up with another reason to keep it. My theory is it isn't costing me anything and I'd get less than its worth if I sell it. I've found that it comes in handy with my son's school projects. Especially since I can change the size of the letters to fit what he needs. I have an old sizzix too and the problem with that is the size is the size of the die, thats it. So for now I'll keep it. Its a very expensive aid for my kids.

I really wanted the Expression when I went to Seattle this year- but didn't find one at Wal-mart so decided no. Now I have decided what I really need is a Craft Robo. Certainly here in England it is cheaper than the expression and it seems so much more flexible- yet still I haven't made the leap.
I'm new here, but just had to post in reply to this thread.
I have the little Cricut and love it - and it's even better now that I have the Sure Cuts a Lot software (from Craft Edge). With SCAL, and your Cricut connected to your computer (Windows or Mac), you can cut TrueType fonts and dingbats, just as you can on a Wishblade or CraftRobo. The software is easy to use and the customer support has been excellent.
You have to have a cartridge in the machine, in order to "load paper" but you do not have to buy any other cartridges besides the one that comes with the machine. There are tons of free fonts and dingbats available for download, and there are many people who are thrilled at the increased versatility of their Cricut with the SCAL.
I bought the Craft Robo a little over a year and a half ago and loved it and still do and then back in March I bought the Pazzles Inspiration and I love it too. I briefly considered the Cricut, but nixed it when I considered the money I would have to spend to buy the cartridges. That's why I love the Robo and the Pazzles.......I don't have to buy any cartridges and I can download all kinds of free files......here are some samples:

Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve, but there are Yahoo groups that I joined where the other members help you through it all. I have never regretted buying either one of them. I think the Pazzles has been easier to learn to use! With these cutters, the possibilities are endless!!!
I love my Cricut! There's so much great stuff you can do with it. I bought the Cricut Design Studio for Christmas and LOVE IT. You can weld letters or shapes together and make some great stuff. Shaped cards are now a piece of cake. You can share the .cut files with others too. Have you been to the messageboards?
I go in phases with all of my tools.
I will go through times when I use one thing all the time and then not again for 6 months. I like having all the tools "just in case".
I just drug out my "Big Shot " after not using it for a while, now I'm using it like crazy!
Honestly, I think it's a normal part of our creativeness.
Not taking it out of the box is probably just having to learn to use a new tool
I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like theirs!
