I flinch at the cost of Copics, although I know they are nice. So I got a set of 36 Bics and 24 Sharpies. They are great to color images with, but the colors are quite bright and intense, even the ones that look like they would be pastel colors.

So I patiently went to Hobby Lobby with my trusty coupon and got Copics one at a time in pastel colors. I think I have yellow, pink, aqua, lavender, peach, pale green, baby blue and a light tan.

I do really well using the pale Copics along with my Bics and Sharpies.

I filled in around my Bics with Copics to create blending groups. I can tell a difference, now that I have used my Copics for awhile, and the Copics tpo blend better - but not better enough to replace the Bics. I went to my local LSS and they were nice enough to let me stand in front of their great Copic selection and match my Bics to their Copics. I bought a couple from them(since they were nice enough to indulge me) then went home and ordered from OOzak. I have also added a fe w lighter blending groups and skin tones to my collection. I just wish Bics had a brush tip!!

Not like you can with Copics. I just want my images to have some highlights and shadows, so using all 3 kinds in darker and lighter shades works for me.

But I wouldn't say I actually "blend" the colors. I know many people go to much more elaborate lengths with their coloring and blending. I can admire their technique and applaud them for it.

My cards are not made to sell or exhibit, but just for my pleasure in making them and hoping to bring a smile to the faces of my family and friends. They usually succeed on that level.

Thanks Buggainok - you answered my question! I haven't tried Copics yet but have plenty of Sharpies so maybe I will try coloring the way you suggest!

I think you can blend pretty well with Sharpies and Bics. I just did this card last night with Sharpies to colour her hair & dress.
