Default rubber to use nestabilites?

Hi. I just bought some nesties yesterday and tried them in my cuttlebug. They seem to work fine. I didn't use a rubber anything or mousepad or anything like that like I have read about here, so I am wondering if I am going to damage anything. I used c plate, b plate, cardstock, nestie and b plate. Can you help?
Thanks!!!!

These are the sandwiches I use in my cuttlebug

To cut (bottom up)
A plate, B plate, cardstock, Nestability edge down, C plate

To emboss (bottom up)
A plate, B plate, Nestability w. edge up, tan mat (rubber), 3 sheets of cardstock, B plate

You won't wreck anything without the rubber however, I image your not getting a very deep embossing on the edges.

I just have the rectangles and hadn't even thought of using them for embossing. I bet that's cool! Where do I get the rubber mat? Is there something else that I might have around the house that would do?

Home Depot or Lowes sells something called "plumbers gasket". This is a thin sheet of rubber than can be used instead of the spellbinders rubber mat. I personally have the mat from Spellbinders, but I've heard the plumbers gasket is basically the same thing. You may need to cut it down to size to fit your machine... not sure because I haven't gone this way.

Most online stores have the tan mats if the sell the nestabilities. I hear you can use a rubber gasket too that is from the plumbing section at a hardware store but I haven't done that at all. Do a search of the forum with 'embossing mat' and image you will get alot of information!

I have the red rubber "plumbers gasket" sheet that I got at Home Depot.

I have heard you can use a couple of layers of fun foam as well. The embossing is not as pronounced with it, but you can get an idea what the embossing is like.

How thick is it? Could I use one of those jar opener grippy things?

You know what? I think you should just try it and see. If it seems very, very hard to crank your Cuttlebug, it might be too thick. Just be sure you follow the sandwich directions for embossing. They are different than for cutting.

My local craft store sells a hot glue pad, which you use as a base when you're hot gluing -- the glue doesn't stick. It feels like a silicone and isn't as thick as a mouse pad. I paid $.96 for this, cut it to fit my B plate, and use it all the time for embossing with my nesties without any trouble. HTH.
