Copics are alcohol based ink markers. Here's their site.

The layers I use for Caucasian coloring and pigs are Cream, Light Peach and Pink Rose. In that order. Sometimes a little Tuscan Red (applied lightly!) for shading. Here's a tutorial I did with a pig. A few other tips in there too.

Morning!

Has anyone seen the Michael's sale paper from yesterday? Primsa open stock pencils are 8 for $10. Not the greatest price but if you need to pick a few up quick it's a chance.

Have a great day!

Did not see that . Thanks!

I got a set last week at Ben Franklin here. Set of 60 on sale for $49 AND they had a 25% off everything! Around $37! Hard to pass that up.

That is a good deal. They must be discontinuing the 60 set. I got mine for the same price plus the store was having a 25% off sale. Have fun with them!

I picked up 8 yesterday from Michael's with that 8 for $10 sale. They just do not have as good a selection as Art Mart but, Art Mart does not have sales very often on Pencils. I may have to go and check out Dick Blick's online store.....I vaguely remember someone on this thread mentioning they have great prices.

Hi Cindy,

I recently purchased some single prismacolor colored pencils from DickBlick.com and they were 92 cents each. At the time they were having a shipping special. I also purchased some tortillons (blending stumps) at an incredible price. I got 36 of 3 different sizes (12 each of Large, med, small) for 2.99. Considering I was paying $1.79 for 6 small tortillons at JoAnn Fabrics, its a steal at DickBlick.

Here is the link to the colored pencils:

http://www.dickblick.com/products/pr...lored-pencils/

And here is the link to the tortillons: I purchased the class pack of 36.

http://www.dickblick.com/products/tortillons/

Check it out and let me know what you think. Happy Shopping!!

Thanks Andrea! I really appreciate that information. Now maybe I can get the rest of my collection.....except the grays, which I next to none of right now. But, I understand that they are very useful for layering.

Thanks again!

I cancelled my order for the 60 premier pencil set, so I can try and get the 120 for $72 dollars with $10 shipping on ebay.

I have a question about the gray colors. I went on the Dick Blick site and noticed that the grays come in Cool, French and Warm tones. Can anyone tell me how best to use the grays? I presume layering under or over other colors, yes?

Yes. Layering under and over works good. The cools lean towards the blue end of the spectrum and the warms the red end. The French... I'm not sure but I would say more warm and they seem to have brownish earth tones in them.

Cool colors fade into the background and warm colors come forward. So you can use that rule of thumb in what you want to emphasize or under emphasize in your drawing.

French Greys are nice for doing grisaille work in my opinion. The drawing is first done with French Grays (any one color really) with all the values put in place. Then local colors (the colors you actually see) are added on top of the grisaille.

I think French Greys can knock down the value of a color without changing it too much too.

Hi Josie,

Im sorry I was not aware that DickBlick does not ship outside of the USA. Perhaps someone following this thread may know of a Canadian site with reasonable prices for Prismacolors.

Good Luck!

I have been teaching myself how to use the prisma pencils, I love all the different feels you get from them... soft and elegant or vibrant and fun!
Here is a card I made for last weeks teapot tuesday challenge...

A page or two back, someone was asking about where to get a good price on Prismacolor pencils. I got some from Jerry's Artarama before Christmas for a great price - like $116 for the set of 132 pencils. I got my pencils very quickly, too. They're having a sale right now for up to 50% off on some sets. Here's a link.

I know this is an old post but I saw deco pink on ebay here is the link but its for a set, its 19.95 it might not be worth it to you. That is if your still interested. It has 12 deco pink and 12 colorless so it may not be what you need. Hopefully they just have it in the singles some where.

Judy, wonderful job on the card. Excellent coloring!

Tim, thanks {again} for the expert advice on how to use the various grays. You probably saved me a couple of years worth of trying on my own!!!

Here's another online site with great art supplies: Utrecht Art - if you sign up or order things you get some pretty good coupons. They sell sets of Prismas and individuals too. I've bought things there for work and home in the past. Only trouble I had was with some engineering scales being on back order forever and sales rep not being very helpful with details.
But other items have been no problem.
They state in their shipping policies: "We can only ship items to Canada that are labeled with the "NAFTA" designation."
Not sure about that with regard to Prismas - Maybe their customer service reps could answer that one.

Hi Sue and welcome!!

I haven't posted any cards/drawings here in awhile. I've got a few new ones up and I just put this one up.... Wee Henry© Cupcake Boy. And Space Boy too.

There was so much stuff I put in this drawing that I had a hard time coloring all of it. Just deciding what color everything is supposed to be is hard for me. It was definitely a learning experience.

Thanks for looking and Happy Coloring everyone!

I just ordered the 132 set from Dick Blick. He is running a special for an additional 20% off and free shipping if you spent over $99. The 132 set came to $86 with the discount and I added in some stumps to bring me up to the $99 for the free shipping.

If you're looking for a set, this is a great deal! I cannot wait to get these

I saw a 12 pencil set of Prismas and 12 pencil set of Lightfast Prismas in Michael's clearance today for $9.99. In the regular set there were only a few that I even like so I didn't get it. Wonder if they are changing packaging again?

I have been on the Dick Blik site 3 times now and I can't get them to accept my order from Canada. I read earlier that a member got items shipped to her and she lived outside the US. Maybe she could let me know how she managed to do this as I am stumped. I even e-mailed them and not one reply. I want to order before this sale is over. Thanks. Josie H. On.

I have to laugh because the basic 12 is all I have. My niece came over yesterday with her 24 set and it was like a party for me. I can't even imagine what the 132 is going to be like. Holy Moly!

I have no idea what the shipping out of the country policy is. Is there someone who can handle it from this side and then ship to you? I've done that for some of my "up north" friends before.

Is the basic 12 colors always been the same? I never bought a set until a couple of weeks ago and that was a 60 set for a crazy low price. I always got my colors individually and built up over time. Is 132 all of them?

I think so - I'm kind of new to all of this. And I would think the 12 is pretty standard. It seems like it would be - white, yellow, black, red, pink, orange, a few blues and greens and browns.

I didn't even know that they occasionally changed packaging though that makes sense.
