I am using them straight out of the package and dip them directly into my baby oil. I have a glass jar that has a sponge in the bottom of it that I keep wet with baby oil, so I just press the tip of the cut 'n dry nib into the sponge and it soaks up the oil and viola! a very precise tip for blending

I use my Prismas all the time. Mine are still in the tin but a mess because I am always searching for the ones I want. I need something to store them that has a lot of spaces so that I can separate them into the catagories I use alot - like the ones I use for skin, sky, grass etc. In the interest of time I usually use the same color combos so it would make it really easy to have them in groups together. Any suggestions?

what about toilet paper rolls? You could paint or cover them in paper, glue them together and attach to a base of some sort???

I posted this before but since it's up for discussion again I'll post it again...lol. Here is my home made pencil holder made with PVC pipe..
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...2523?cat=16202

I group by color too....and keep the odd ones together like black, white and blenders.

If you have a target by you.. look in the $1 spot!! I found these a few months ago and posted it before as well..

Here is how I decided to store my pencils on my desk. I bought these 2 a while ago in target dollar spot to store other items. I like how they are each divided into 4 sections so I have 8 spots! I grouped the pencils by color..

Finally got my prismacolors today and all I can say is I'm hooked! (knew I'd be!)
I had Gemini brand OMS from Hobby Lobby that I have had for eons just waiting to get my pencils and it worked perfectly and truly has no odor. I may have to be pried from stampin room tonight lol
Oh and btw, I've been reading this thread since I ordered my pencils. Thanks for all the suggestions and helpful hints I've found here!

I remember reading somewhere about incorporating shades of gray into shading. Does anyone know of a tutorial or somewhere to find more info about how to do that? What shades of gray are recommended for shading?
Thanks!

I have mine stored, pitifully, in plastic bagggies with labels on the outside....consequently, I do a lot of searching for the right colors...all the time!!

Hey Everyone!!...I keep my prismacolor pencils in a pampered chef carousel. I have had this for years now and love it. I can seperate all my pencils by color and the middle section I use for storing the colors i am currently working with.

I teach colored pencil techniques out of my studio and I have a workshop that meets once a month for stamping and scrapbooking too.

Attached is a photo of my carousel and a sketch in Prismacolor pencils of my bird Diva I did awhile back.

I have been reading all of these great tips... so I headed to target and I found a smaller version of the carousel perfect size for pencils.. it is Blue on outside with a red center and has 6 compartments and a center compartment.. $2.50 in the dollar spot at target... small enough to sit on my stand while I color. Love all your ideas... Now if only I could catch that great offer on Prisma pencils... my daughter checked in Chicago and I hit one office depot here in Peoria... out of luck... they sold out quickly at those two stores.

I posted this card yesterday. I started with the "Summer" version and it expanded to all seasons. I added Stickles to the white areas on the Winter picture. I love my prismas! It's really hard for me to make a card without coloring on it.

I read your post yesterday and decided to pop into my local Office depot today..Jackpot! They had 1 set left of the 120 pencil set for $9.94 & their last 48 Prismacolor markers with stand set for $10.94. It wasn't in a bin or in the usual marker section..I asked a clerk and they had to check the back. Thanks for posting your sister's deal!

I have been using Prisma colors for YEARS!!! I was an art student in high school so I obviously had to have the best and in my opinion, Prisma was it! I have their pencils, markers, color pencils...

So, when I found this "Gamsol Magic" Technique I was tickled to see them reccomend Prisma! I still have hundreds of pencils!

BUT I have a question... when using this technique... do I have to use water color paper? I've been trying to hunt down Hot Press paper bc I dont like the texture of Cold Press.... but, can it be done on regular stamping cardstock? I bought some OSM and blending stumps today so I could give it a try!

Regular card stock seems to work fine. The gamsol isn't "wet" enough to cause problems.

Okay, this is my very first post...hopefully I'm doing this right. I've only been a member since 9/08! Until about a month ago, I wasn't quite sure what a thread or a post was. I think I've figured it out now.

I've been reading all these great tips on this thread, and have been taking all kinds of notes. Thank you everyone for all the great information!! I read the posts yesterday about Office Max, and this morning I was on a mission to find a set of 120 for $9.94. I found all the stores near me, called at least 5 of them. You really have to be persistant for them to check for you. I finally found one at the 5th store I called. I pretty much screamed at the poor lady on the phone! I'm a big bargain hunter and I would have to say that was the best bargain I every got!

I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate all this great info!
One of these days I'll actually post one of my cards or a box/bag/book...but that would mean I'd have to use my camera and figure out how to get it here. One step at a time.

Kathy

God is so good to me...He's given me the passion to create and He provides the tools! Thank you Lord!

No, you don't have to use watercolor paper! Plain cardstock is just fine and should give you great results. The smoother the stock the more "float" you'll get with the OMS. I love Gina K's pure luxury cardstock as one of the smoothest I've found. I like the base weight. It's got a great smooth crisp feel to it.

Don't discount your watercolor paper though. You will get different results the more tooth your paper has. I get a very smooth, almost marker effect on the Pure Luxury, while the more tooth the cardstock, the more of a painted effect I get. It's a fun technique to play around with.

I teach colored pencil techniques out of my studio and I have a workshop that meets once a month for stamping and scrapbooking too.

Attached is a photo of my carousel and a sketch in Prismacolor pencils of my bird Diva I did awhile back.

Your bird drawing is so beautiful!! I wish I had an ounce of your artistic talent!
