Default Sure Cuts Alot or Make the Cut

I have had my Cricut for just about a year and know it is capable of so much more then I am using it for. I have the Cricut Design Studio, but am having a very hard time using it and have read in another thread that that is the worst program going. Luckily I got a really good deal on it, so I didn't spend a fortune on it. I have heard of both SCAL and Make the Cut and am wondering what the pros and cons of each are. I am not computer savy at all and am afraid that I won't be able to figure out how to use it and they are pretty spendy. Thanks for any advise you can give.
Thanks,
Lauri

Check out my friend, Penny's blog: Penny Duncan Creations

She can help you decide, I'm sure. Her creations are fantastic.
