Huge Thank You!!! Re: Glimmer Mist

I owe a huge thank you to whoever posted that they solved their Glimmer Mist globby-spray problem by adding a bead to the bottle.

I added several alphabet beads (that were not being used) to each bottle of my Glimmer Mist as a last ditch effort to love and use my sprays. The beads help disperse the mica powder into the liquid when shaking the bottle. If the bead fix hadn't worked, I was ready to rak 'em to a friend.

She's out of luck because it worked!!! I'm thrilled.

Thank you!

Whoohooo...love it when some one gives us a clue that helps!
blessings.

RubberLady603 10-27-2010 04:28 PM

COOL! I'm going to have to try it too! My Glimmer Mist is dangerously close to joining that pile of stuff I don't use and really need to get rid of...........

MillieMadeIt 10-27-2010 04:46 PM

I posted on another thread to use BB's to "stir" the mica in the bottom. I found that the mica had "gooped" at the end of the tube, so by snipping off a bit of the tube it didn't touch the bottom, so no more clogged tube.

Have a wonderful day,

Millie

KathiR 10-27-2010 05:44 PM

Ah. I was hoping whoever had posted about the BBs would come forward. I don't have BBs and was worried that they'd rust, so I used plastic beads instead.

Thank you Millie! Huge hugs!

identicaltriplets 10-28-2010 04:53 AM

Oooh, that sounds like a fun idea but Glimmer Mist should never be shaken. That's what causes it to clog. You have to swirl the bottle not shake it. :) Enjoy! I've got more bottles on the way and some Maya Road Mists. Love those too! :)

Bellegirl 10-28-2010 05:21 AM

Ok...please help me...I have bottles of this stuff and never use them as I just get splotches on my CS and it looks awful....how do people use these glimmer sprays where they like the results? I'd love to know as right now I just feel like these have been a major waste of money...and I'd really like to use them---if I liked the results....

Thanks!

Cinnistew 10-29-2010 05:37 PM

There's a really great tutorial here: Glimmer Mist :: Creative Play Stamps - Rubber Art Stamps

I recently bought some of Ranger's Perfect Pearls mists and I love them... no globs when I spray and mine haven't clogged yet!

Thank you, Cinnistew! I watched the video and will be trying some of these techniques in the hope that I can now successfully use my glimmer sprays!

Peg's 10-29-2010 09:06 PM

Thank you for sharing! I've had a couple of bottles sitting here for over a year unused because I have the same problem. I'm going to try adding the bead, too. Now I want to go try it. :)

kkaisu 10-30-2010 11:19 AM

I never shake, always swirl and at least half of my glimmer mist bottles clog, and I have resorted to pouring them into Ranger Mini Misters. I am going to try the bead/bb idea, Thanks alot whoever came up with this idea. It is so frustrating knowing you are using the product as directed and repeatedly have problems. Off to find some bb's.

NwP 10-30-2010 11:24 AM

I watched the video, too, and now I look forward to trying my glimmer sprays. I was having those big splotches everywhere - it was out of control.

uncbballfan 10-30-2010 08:09 PM

Thanks for the link to the video, but they should change the instructions on the bottles, which say to shake well before using.

I love pink 10-30-2010 08:46 PM

this sounds great but silly question whats BB??? Thanks!!

Indy_Patti 10-31-2010 04:04 AM

The BBs everyone is talking about about the BBs that you use with a BB gun! Sounds like we're going in a circle - right?!

Anyway - BBs are small round balls.

whoistracy 11-01-2010 11:32 AM

Awesome! Going to be trying this too. I have a few beads that I've been saving and will never use.

shazsilverwolf 11-02-2010 11:34 AM

So pleased I came across this- I have the same issue with blobs, and mine are also sitting on a shelf not being used. And I know that somewhere in here is a tub filled with beads that I shall never use, and if I can't find it then its off to the pound shop!

dhaus 11-03-2010 06:12 AM

Great! I can't wait to the try the BB/Bead idea because mine also sit unused most of the time; although I love the look I can't stand the blobs so I had resorted to only using them with a sponge to get the cool effect.

Kathleen Mc 11-03-2010 07:08 AM

lie your bottles on their sides rather than upright. makes it easier to disperse the mica. roll the bottle rather than shake it.
like the idea of a bead inside!

cakhuxel 11-03-2010 08:01 AM

I've got too many unused bottle of the Glimmer Mist because of the glopping. I've had much better luck with the Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz. Really enjoy those much more than the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.

Excellent tip ... going to do this when I make it home today

KathiR 11-03-2010 02:06 PM

Lying them on their sides would take up too much room, but it's a great idea if you have the space...

scrappymoodnz 11-03-2010 02:33 PM

;) willing taker of any unwanted Glimmer Mist here ;) *hee hee JK* It is as rare as hens teeth over here and when I do manage to find it the colours are sparse and we pay a FORTUNE for it, despite the exchange rate being good at the moment :/ The two bottles that I have owned I LOVED! Plu the added bonus of being in Christchurch, we wouldn't have to stir it up too much, the aftershocks would take care of that ;)

harrahx2 11-03-2010 02:58 PM

scrappymoodnz, you took the words right out of my mouth! I would love to give unloved glimmer mist a home. I promise to take good care of it and use it well! LOL! I love it. Never knew about the bead and will try.

Margscardcrazy 11-03-2010 06:38 PM

Mmmmm, I make my own, I use a mini mister spray bottle, about 1/2 and inch of water a drop of ink refill (I have about eighty colours) and then I get my paper snips open the blade and push the blade into some perfect pearls powder of my choice, place it in the mini mister then swirl the bottle like you would if you were trying to get a biro to work or you could probably swish it from side to side.
Works perfectly uses very little of any thing and you can have any colour you like solong as you have the ink.

hbrown 11-04-2010 12:18 PM

ROFL! Add me to the list of Glimmer Mist lovers who will give your bottles a good home! :-) I love using these, and yes, they do clog up on me. I've transferred some to the mini misters and they work beautifully. Too bad we can't get a bigger mini mister bottle that will hold all of the glimmer mist liquid.

I just stole my hubby's can of air last night and I'm going to try blowing the nozzles of my clogged Glimmer Mists to see if that helps. If nothing else, I can always watercolor with these, sponge with them, or even splatter them on my artwork with a toothbrush.

Anyone who wants to get rid of their Glimmer Mists, PM me and we can work out a deal. I love Glimmer Mists! :-)

LorraineBK 11-04-2010 07:44 PM

Glad I found this thread. I bought Glimmer Mist and used it and thought, it looks like garbage. Why does everyone love this stuff? Now I know...I need beads! Thanks.

KathiR 11-04-2010 09:30 PM

BTW, I went with beads (alphabet beads because I couldn't find my darned pony beads) because:
(a) I didn't have BBs and
(b) if I had them, I worried that they would rust and change the lovely color.

I'd love to know if the "bead thang" has helped anyone else.

kelicat 11-08-2010 06:49 AM

Thanks a million for posting this. I have 3 clogged bottles and a project on hold but not for long! :)

Alas, I WANT to try Glimmer Mist, but the LSS is always out when I am in - they can't keep it on their shelves!

I'm wondering if all of this applies to SU shimmer paint mixed with alcohol? I just threw out a year old bottle I had mixed because it just blobbed. What is the correct "recipe"/ratio for SU shimmer paint and alcohol? Does it matter if you use 70% or 90% alcohol? Is the mini mister the best bottle to use? I used an old eyeglass cleaner bottle which I had washed out, but, as I said, I just got blobs and ruined several projects that way. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.--Susie

I have the SAME problem *sigh*

cookiebeagle 11-10-2010 06:40 AM

Use 70% alcohol!

I have used 70% alcohol and it works great; the 90% evaporates faster and adds to the globbiness.

Thank you! Very helpful.

About twirling the Glimmer Mist VS. Shaking it. I shake the heck out of mine and never clogs on me. Swirling doesn't work for me because you don't get all the shimmer off the bottom of the bottle and thats what is clogging up the tubes. All the glimmer at the bottom get sucked up the tube and clogs it. If you shake it and mix up real good no clogs, at least in my experience, and I love GM!!!

What a great idea. I love 'make your own' things - not that I'm cheap...I'm... just, well... cheap! Thanks for sharing. I'll try it ;)

Paperclip 11-11-2010 08:48 PM

This is my first post! I've been reading SCS for a long time, but I finally had to create a login so that I could add a comment to this thread. Hope I'm doing it right.

I've been making my own Glimmer Mist too.

I don't have any perfect pearls - they were too expensive for me when they were all the rage. However, I do have a set of Glimmer Chalks - which I've never enjoyed using. I recently discovered that scraping a little into a spray bottle (an old cheap refillable perfume bottle), and adding water makes a great shimmery spray.

Hope that helps someone. :)

HevnLee2 11-28-2010 08:25 PM

I love my GM! I usually hold my bottles upright between my palms and roll back &forth--it distributes the mica pretty well, and haven't had a problem with the nozzle yet. But I bet the mixing of the mica is SO much faster using those beads--count me in! Actually on many projects I choose not to spray, but after it's mixed pretty well I'll unscrew the top and "splatter" the GM onto my projects--the pearl makes for some great snow droplets, and some of the other color splatters look great on distressed projects!
