Cutting fabric with Cricut?
Has anyone has success cutting fabric with the Cricut? I would love to be able to do this for quilting but the fabric just slides off the mat and bunches. I did use a light stablizer.

mune5664.....Yes it is possible to cut lightweight fabric with the Cricut or Expression, but it needs to be ironed onto a stabilizer first.

I've done several demos with the fabric and it can be done, but there is also some trial and error and hit and miss. If the blade hits a snag in the weave of the fabric while cutting, you have to start over with new fabric.

Best to use a lightweight cotton or cotton polyester fabric and iron it on Heat and Bond (the one in the red package). Be sure it is perfectly smooth and secure. Use a new sticky mat and blade. Don't try any small cuts or intricate designs. Only larger simple images.

If you watch the infomercial, they are cutting out an image on the full size 12x12 mat. So it is rather deceiving.

If/when you do get a successful cut it is kinda neat to then be able to then iron it on a shirt, tote or what ever.
