Clutterbug/Cuttlebug

My good friend, Barb, has this great system for organizing the CB folders and dies. I went on E-bay for the first time, and ordered sheets to hold the different sizes of embossing folders and dies. The package arrived today. Now they are nicely nestled in their appropriate size sheets inside two 3-ring binders.

Here's my problem. I now have boxes of the packaging. I can't throw it away. There must be some good use for the clear plastic coverings. Some of the cardboard backings have these nice black sections. I think I can use them to die cut something.

Of course, the purpose of the binders was to reduce clutter.
Help, I don't want to be one of those old ladies found buried under her Rubber Stamper Magazine, papers, gadgets, and now the packaging from the CB dies and folders.

O.K. I think I am following you on this. so don't LOL if I am not are you talking about the orginal packageing the cuttlebug dies came in when you bought them??

MaryEileen 05-02-2007 04:20 PM

Yes, all those nice clear plastic packages. There must be a good use for them. I should just go out and put them in the trash. I know as soon as I do someone will suggest a good use for them.

Okay, I saved mine too! But I'm using the cardboard to thicken up my cardstock when die cutting. The clear plastic, I stamp with Stazon, run through my xyron, color with Primary Element or Pearls, run back through the xyron, and adhere to a card.

I guess I'll be the crazy lady found under all her stamping junk!

I use that nice smooth plastic to make a permanent image in stazon for use with my stamp-a-ma-jig. I cut it into squares and use the SAMJ to stamp the image then throw it in the SU box with the stamps, then I never have to clean off the plastic that comes with the SAMJ!

MaryEileen 05-02-2007 05:22 PM

Thank you, thank you. I knew there was a good use for the plastic and the cardboard. No I don't have to feel guilty about not throwing them away.
If I cut the plastic into usable shapes, it won't take up so much room.
My family makes fun of me because I save things. I've got all my Rubber Stamper Magazines except for the first issue. I began with the second.
Some day, I'll get rid of them, but I'm not ready for that, yet.

Man!!! I should have done that! I just finally threw them out, after not figuring out how to use them. I love my SAMJ and use it ALL the time. I've been trying to figure out where to get some thick plastic from to do just what you've done. Guess you know what I'll be saving for the next little bit! Thanks for the great idea!

I have plastic saved for this purpose, too. I just haven't done the stamping thing yet. DD thought I was nuts when I scrounged through her garbage after the grands got some new toys for Easter!

mesuezee 05-02-2007 05:58 PM

I have never thought of saving the clear plastic to make embellishments. I have 2 kids, we get lots of plastic from toy packaging!!!

I use vellum scraps for my stamp a majig images and keep them in the stamp storage box.

I'll be gone the next 2 days, I'll check back to see if there are any other clever ideas on Saturday. Those mentioned tonight are certainly enough reason to keep them. I'll be stamping and using them with the stamp-a-ma-jig. I tried cutting the cardboard with the black backing from the embossing folders with the CB dies, and it worked great. I wish they were all like that. Eileen

I've used similar plastic from toy packages to make shaker cards.

momis mama 05-03-2007 02:46 PM

more reasons for me to RUN out and get that darned BUG!
just don't want to pay full price! gotta get my timing right! i'm a cheap chick!

I saw a lovely card on another site made with the clear plastic embossed with the CB hearts folder, and then colored with alcohol inks. It looked like stained glass.

MaryEileen 05-04-2007 05:53 PM

I love the look of stained glass. I don't have alcohol inks, but that may be my next purchase. Thanks for all the great ideas. Eileen

i guess i am not alone in saving all sorts of things.... i saved the lids for prem-pro (hormone tabs in a wheel) for so long ! never did come up with something clever so they are gone now ! but i have a nice box of clear plastic from all the boxes i seem to be accumulating for the sizzix and CB accessories ! they mount up fast too !

i also use the clear plastic for shaker cards....but never thought of embossing them with my bug ! thank you ,thank you ! have to try that today after work

I read a tip on another group, that the plastic containers that some restaurants use for their to go food, can be used as shrink plastic if it has a #6 in the little recycle triangle. I haven't tried it yet, but I have been saving these as well as the Cuttlebug plastic. I am happy to know that I'm not the only one who saves this stuff. I'll keep checking this thread for more great ideas.

Please don't let me be the thread killer on this one. I'm hoping for more great ideas on using the plastic from packages. Thanks.

Kimmerriffic 05-06-2007 04:58 AM

uses for the pkg.

Here is a GREAT tip. ladies.....
Are ya ready????

that plastic pkg stuff that the dies come in is GREAT for your Sizzix machine or the Cuttlebug to cut out the *GHOST * letters or shapes!
That is the coolest thing!
I have even drug out my old Sizzix machine and shapes!
This saves you a lot of money ! Wooo Hoo!
I now have a stack of ghost flowers...letters and shapes...
Just color and staple them to your cards!

RJP111 05-06-2007 06:01 AM

Thanks for the great tips, Ladies.

My Cuttlebug is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday; I can't wait to start using it. I'll start saving clear plastics today!

mugsy1 05-06-2007 06:49 AM

i am not sure what "ghost" means....do you place them under the letters or just use them as letters that are "almost there"? and shows what's underneath?

dgmlmax 05-06-2007 05:35 PM

Just curious when you die cut this type of plastic, does it dull the cutting blade on the dies? I love this idea but I don't want to ruin a die in the process. Maybe after doing it I could die cut some sand paper.... what do you think?
