Default photo software

I'm looking to purchase new photo software and wondering what everyone uses and where to buy it? Can I download it now?

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements and really like it. The new 7.0 version is out and has some really cool features. I'll be upgrading in the next month or so from my 5.0 version.

You can purchase and download it from www.adobe.com if you decide it's the package for you.

I just bought Photoshop Elements 7 at Staples Friday on sale for 64.99. It's a xmas present from hubbby. I intend to get the book by Scott Kelby when it comes out in the near future on how to use this software. He comes out with a new book for each new version & from what I understand his book is a great learning tool for us software dummies like myself. This is my first real photo software. I was using the Creative memories one called Memory manager & I wanted something more advanced. I hope I like it, I won't be using it till after xmas.

I'm using Picassa 3.... and it's free. I LOVE it.

Do you particularly want to buy software? As well as Picasa there are a couple of other pretty good free packages out there.
Photofiltre is basic in what it offers, but good.
The GIMP is pretty high end, pretty much up to Adobe PhotoShop. My DH is doing a PhotoShop course at the moment and he's impressed with how GIMP compares. I've been using it for some years.
I'd far rather spend my money on something else when there are such good free alternatives available.

http://gimp.org/ and go to downloads.

I think there is also a pay version of Photofiltre called Photofiltre Studio, which presumably has extra bells and whistles, but I've never tried it. There's a 30 day trial and then you can pay to register.

Like GIMP, the Studio version of Photofiltre offers RAW editing if you shoot in that format.
