Default Ott True light lamps?

Does having one of these "true light" lamps really help the quality of your work? They can get pricey but I need a task lamp anyway---are they worth it?

Well, I can only give my own opinion, but I absolutely love my Ott Light! I don't know what I would do without it.

In my opinion, yes. Especially if you don't work by a window with true light coming in there or if you don't have great eyesight. I have one and my mother has two--one for stamping (table style) and one for sewing (floor style). Just my two cents.

This is probably a dumb question...are they good to use when taking pictures of cards to post online?

I stamp in my basement, so the light isn't the greatest. I have an OTT light and it is the best! I wouldn't be able to stamp without it. If you watch JoAnn's, they run some really good specials on them and the replacement bulbs. Although, I have had mine for a few years now and haven't had to replace the original bulb yet (knock on wood!).

My MIL does needle point and uses one for that and swears by it too!

That's actually why I'm asking right now---JoAnn's latest flyer has a great deal on them--50 -60% off!

I personally haven't had much luck using it for my pictures.

I took advantage of this yesterday and ordered the TrueLight 18W Dove Grey Lamp table. Retail $100, paid $48, and free freight!

Before ordering this, I picked up a smaller one from Michael's to see if it would be worth getting a bigger one. The one I got from Michael's looks like a newer craft task lamp, 12W, works as a clamp or free-standing. I REALLY like what does for lighting in my basement. BUT, 12W is not enough for me. I need a bigger bulb that lights a larger area.

Still, the 12W is very versative/portable and will be nice to have on hand for crochet, cross-stitch, and as added light for specific projects. So, I will probably keep them both.

I say go for it!

I bought a light similar to an OTT with the same sort of bulb - only brighter (27W instead of 13W or 18W) for $22.00 at Big Logs. I had gotten a 13W Ott from HL and returned it. This one gives out so much more light.

Love my Ott lamp... I have it on my craft desk... I just bought another one to have by my sewing machine... once you use one, it's really hard to go back! It really helps when taking pictures of cards too!

I have the 13W one and I really like it. I take my pictures on my table while using the lamp and they seem fine (you can look at my gallery). I used to have my stamping room in a room that gets lots of sunlight, but I used the lamp at night. Now I have moved to a room that doesn't get direct sun light and I use it all of the time.

I hope it's worth it. I just ordered one this week, using Joann's additional 20% off online. Paid $68.00 for OTT-LITE TrueColor(TM) 18W Ellenton Floor Lamp. No shipping fees, retails $159.00. My room is in a converted attic. During the day is fine because of skylights and a window, but it's pretty dark at night. I was going to wait for Christmas, but at that price it wasn't worth waiting.

Ok b/c of this thread I just purchased one and it was a Ott-Lite True Color table top model. Joanne's had it on sale On-line for $59.99 with free shipping. I stopped at Joann'e store today adn they did nt have it but then went to Michaels and they had it for $99.00 but it is 40% off this week so I got it for $59.99.. so that was great. I put it all together last night and it works great. My problem was the heat my other lamp gave off.. so this is great and good lighting.. should have had this a long time ago... thanks for the input.

Wooo-hoo! Thanks enablers Just got an email that Joann's has free shipping today & the portable OTT-light is on sale for $39.99. Then, I saw an online coupon for 20% off so I got the pink one for $32 with free shipping. So happy I don't have to drag the kids with me to the store now!
