Thanks for posting about this. I had been to Michael's and had seen all the new punches (of which I purchased several) but had totally missed the scoring tool. I went today and got one with a 45% off coupon that I found here on SCS (thank you!). A bunch of the Martha Stewart Crafts stuff was on sale already for 25% off but not all that line - and the scoring tool rang up regular price (so I used my coupon). Once I got it home I opened it and started playing with it - LOVE IT! I, too, had looked at the ScorPal but so many times I need more than the lines they have on it, so the MS scoring one was perfect with it's 1/8" score lines. It's going to be well worth the $10.99 I paid for it.

Does anyone have a number for these? My closest Michaels, an hour away, didn't even want to look without a number. Sigh.
TIA

Good grief ... it's not as if you can miss it ... the package measures about 14 x 18 and is in the Martha Stewart aisle.

Anyway, here's the bar code number: 0 15586 83820 6

or

Above the bar code it reads: 42-05002 Scoring Board

Considering the price ($12.71 after coupon and tax), I may go back to Michael's and get one for myself, even though I already have the Scor-Pal. I like that the MS version has the 1/8" intervals all the way across, plus the envelope template looks fun.
That is such a sweet gesture, I'm sure she'll love it.

Whooohooo! I finally found one..they only had 2 left! This is what it looks like in the package..I'll play with it tonight and post a review. I'm happy to have found a cheaper alternative to the scor-pal. Oh, and they accepted my 45% off coupon..great deal!

None of the new merchandise at either of the Michael's in my area. I asked the clerk about it and she just shrugged her shoulders at me - either she doesn't know or doesn't care.

I don't need another toy either...but the ability to score better and smaller? Priceless, especially with a coupon! Thanks for letting us know.

I stopped by one M's this morning and the peg was already empty. I just called another M's that's in the other direction and they have one. It's on hold for me till the end of the day today...now I just need to get out of the house sans my 4 kiddos. Think I can swing that?

I got it! I got it ! I got it!!!!!!

I am so excited to play with it. It is beautiful!!! I love it, love it, love it!!! I went to the local Michaels and they still don't have anything on the pegs. I decided to go for a drive and that Micheals is totally stocked. Found it and used the coupon for 45% off so it cost me $12.01 with tax (ha ha--even went to another county with cheaper tax so double wahoo wahoo!!!) There are lots of other new goodies out too but budget is way tight this month so didn't look too closely. Thank you to all who told us about this. I am SO excited. I didn't care for the lack of score lines on the other scoring tool---too much moving around for me--but this is amazing!!! After dinner I am playing with my new toy!!!

Ha ha---I put a bunch of the smileys in my post and the system made me delete most of them---but I am THAT happy!!!

I finally found one today. Ironically the salesperson couldn't talk enough about the Scor-Pal, which of course, Michaels doesn't carry. I got into a conversation with her about comparing it to the Scor-Pal as I have worked with the Scor-Pal since its inception. I have played with it a little. There are pros and cons.

I just got mine too. I went to 1 Micheals and they didn't have them up yet. I came home called another and they held me one until this evening. Used a coupon for 45% off at $11.71. Havn't had the chance to play with it yet.

Because everyone has their own opinions and many will say I am biased towards the Scor-Pal because of my connection with them, I am uncomfortable listing the pros and cons.

For me there are a number of engineering issues and comfort issues that make the MS board one that I will not use again. Obviously, it's cheap, as in retail price, and that alone will appeal to a certain segment of the market. There are some products - crafting and otherwise - that cheaper isn't always better.

Woohoo!!!!!! Got mine today too!! I love it. Already made and envelope and a box.

Met my friend (partner in crime) at Mike's to find that empty hook once again. We asked one of the workers if she would check for any, but she informed us that whatever they had was already out and weren't expecting to get any MS shipments until next week. We decided to poke around the store a happily found the new display of Christmas punches, glitter, etc. I was excited already as I'm a major punch junkie! There was boxes of freight and a heaping basket of MS stuff close by. There in that heaping basket were three of the new scoring tools. JACKPOT!!!! Soooo make sure to look around to see what else may be sitting around the store. They are getting a tremendous amount of frieght right now, so look around a bit, you too may hit the jackpot! And don't forget to check out the new glitter and punches too!!!

Wonder what MS is gonna come up with next that will be a must have?

This is the same response I get at the two stores nearest me in the Denver CO metro area. I e-mailed Michaels customer care service and just got a reply that "Michaels.com has reduced sales emphasis and is focused on becoming the premier web site for ideas, information and education. Only gift card are available for purchase online. Please visit the local store where an associate will be able to provide assistance."

Seems the attitude from the local stores just carries through with the same attitude put out by someone at corporate. Maybe we just have bad management at our local stores?

I had bought my mom the Scor-pal last year and have used it but have been disappointed with the markings that are on it---or lack of it--and not enough measurements on it. This one has more what I have been looking for--I don't have to move it around like I do with the other one. I don't feel like it is poorly made---I think it is less expensive but not cheap---Martha Stewart has the resources to have things created for a good price in comparison to a small company. I can use the large paper too. I am loving it and for me I am glad I own one.

ok, I just got a chance to play with my new tool and so far I love it! I made a box and small envelope following the included directions and I also used my new MS Doily lace trim (double-edge punch) to accent the box top. I don't own a scor-pal so I can't make a comparison. I'm happy with the ease and value of this tool!

I have seen a big change in my Michael's over the past year...helpful customer service and lots of new product (MS and lots of other stamping/scrapping product). I really have to stop myself from visiting every week.

I already have a Scor Pal, or I would give the MS score board a try.

Okay I am curious now with those avid Scor-pal users like myself, what are the cons of the MS board...? Is anyone willing to be a critic I was thinking about getting one too but I've done some reviews on it but I'm wanting to hear more from SCS than anyone else...

Default Scoring Tool

Maybe I'm dense but how is the ScorPal or the MS scoring board/mat any better than just using a scoring tool on your paper cutter/trimmer? I use the scoring tool on my paper trimmer and can score on almost all measurements-smallest distance 1/8 of an inch.

Thanks for humoring the newbie

Scor Pal & the Score Board are 12x12 platforms. Which means you can place your paper down and make multiple scores (perfectly placed) without moving the paper. You might wind up rotating your paper 90 degrees to score additionally for things like boxes, envelopes, etc... HTH

I just bought this on Tuesday and as I said in an earlier post on this thread, I already have the Scor-Pal and love it, but IMHO this is worth the coupon price, just to get the envelope template....so easy!!!

A few others have said it, but my Fiskars little paper cutter has a little wiggle to it (regardless of which one I use) and it doesn't always seem straight - the score is straight, but the cutting and scoring always seem ever so slightly not at 90 degrees. I have a large table top Fiskars cutter that I love, but it's a pain to swap out the cutting blade for the scoring blade eventhough if I do it, it scores great (and straight - not off).

I got the MS scorer and love that I don't have to think about the measurements and don't have to move the paper around unless I'm making a box - and it scores straight, unlike my little Fiskars one.

I was curious about the new MS scoring board, and picked one up yesterday. I have to say...I'm not so impressed. I'm sticking with my Scor-Pal, and will gift this to someone else...lol.

Rose Ann,

What is the criticism of the MS score board? I don't have a scoring board and was considering this one. Appreciate your comments.

yes, please be specific...did you actually use it?

Also, as for the scoring tool on the Fiskars cutter...I always heard that it didn't score as deeply. But I don't know, I never actually tried it. I think it does come down to ease of use, for me anyway.

The scoring tool has a beveled edge, which is uncomfortable to use. Let me see if I can get a picture.

Not only is it uncomfortable to use...but because the tool is so thin, I'm wondering how many projects it will take to wear those edges down.

I just bought the new MS scoring tool, and I love it! I have never had the desire to shell out $30+ for the scor-pal so this was a great alternative for me . In reference to the above poster on the scoring tool it came with I agree, it is a tad on the flimsy side so I just tried using my SU scoring blade and it worked beautifully. A++++ If you live near the Winchester Virginia area Michael's still has 3 MS scoring tools on the peg.

I was using a Fiskars trimmer with a score blade and this is exactly what was happening when I scored paper too. The plastic guide/track wiggled and you have to keep moving your paper to line it up for the next score line. My MS board allows me to score more accurately and alot quicker than my prior method. I agree that the included MS score tool is a little flimsy so I used my sturdy bone scoring tool (bought years ago) and it works perfectly! I love it!

I have a Scor-Pal and bought one for my mom as well. The Michael's store here has the boards in stock (just called and the lady said that they had 4) and I have 45% off coupons, but I wonder if it is really worth it. I can make envelopes with the scor pal and also my cricut expression. I do like the thought of being able to have 1/8" score groves.. maybe with the coupon, since it's not much, I'll give it a try.. not like I don't have lots of other things that sit here unused! ha ha.

Anymore comparisons or critisms ? I was wondring about the tool itself and it look like it would be uncomfortable to hold...

It is uncomfortable and feels like you are scoring with a plastic knife. I cannot imagine scoring multiple scores in a row.

Following the directions for the MS A2 envelope produces an envelope that is larger than a standard A2. The MS A2 measures 4-3/4" x 6 when finished. Standard A2 is 4-3/8 x 5-3/4. Not sure about the other envelopes from the MS template as I haven't done them yet.

Everyone is correct, the scoring tool seems a bit small. For me this works out because I have little hands (I'm 5"2" & small boned.) I often use the smaller sized bone folder that is available. The envelope it creates is a bit big for my A2 cards, but I love foam tape, so that works out good for me also. I used the envelope template to make the grid background & had it done in seconds. No guessing. The score line is thinner than the Score-it & thicker than the fiskars. I don't have a ScorPal, but those lines seem more like the Score-it. I paid $10 for my MS ScoreBoard & it has been worth every penny! Heck, it would have been worth the full price of $19.99. My folds are so much more accurate because I don't have to move my paper. I make many books & cards that move, so my score lines have been much more accurate. Now I can see why the ScorPal has been such a huge success. I can say without even having a ScorPal that the groves on the ScorPal seem deeper & they have marks for the gate fold which is nice. It does seem to me that the MS board is an improvement on most of the scoring tools on the market. Although, I'm sure that each of the boards has it's own advantages. That's probably why I already have the Aleen's Boxmaker, Enveloper, Mini Score-it & the Ultimate Crafters Companion Tool. Each one worked better for a particular project.
