Does anyone know how to use this item? No instructions came with it and I can't figure out how to use it. It is clear plastic with inch markings on the right and left sides and is split in the middle There is a circle "wheel" like thing on one side....almost like it should open up. But it doesn't seem to want to open up. I don't want to break it in case I return it. I have a thing-a-ma-jig but I thought this would be another option. HELP!

It pulls out into a 90 degree angle. Pull harder and it will click. I was afraid I'd break it too.

Just bought one today and I could not for the life of me figure out how to open. Thanks for your post, now I know how to open and not break it.
