Default Medium for painting?

I love to watercolor. I love using the WW crayons. I also like blending with markers, but I only have the regular markers & a total of 2 copics & 4 prismacolors. They produce such a smooth look, but they are too pricey for me right now. I also have used watercolor pencils & prismacolor pencils with OMS.

I am wondering if there is a REALLY RICH medium that you can use to paint in images that looks dark like markers, but is painted. Also, what sparkly medium would you use for painting? I've never used twinkling h2o's. I have used pearl-ex with floor polish in the aquapainter. I tend to get that too goopy, though. Guess I'm wondering what not too pricey things are out there that work on pictures for cards. Can you paint on paper with acrylic paint?

Thanks for any info you can share with a cheap stamper who wants to try new things on a budget! LOL!

The Peerless Watercolors are rich pigment on paper, so you can control how rich your color is by how much color you pick up. Here are links to the Bonus Pack (http://www.mftstamps.com/catalog/pro...kh4d0b69dptas6) and the Complete Collection (http://www.mftstamps.com/catalog/pro...h4d0b69dptas6).

As far as shimmer I use the Pearlescent Watercolors from Niji (MFT Carries those but looks like they're out of stock), which are only like $6 for the 21 color pack! They're awesome!

They dont look like markers but I am fond of the watercolor pencils and tombow blending marker combo....I use twinks for sparkle as well. Also Perfect pearls fro Ranger and the Perfect Medium pen are fnatastic as well.

Ooh, there are marvelous choices out there. I use Twinks, acrylic paints (tube and bottle) (yes, they do work on paper), calligraphic inks, oil pastels and lots of different types of colored pencils. Go into www.dickblick.com and you'll find all kinds of things to paint and color with. And yes, Peerless water colors are marvelous.

Two totally different mediums... the Copic markers are an Alcohol Art marker. They are vibrant and can be blended easily... but they don't give a "watercolor" look.

Peerless are not markers... they are watercolor papers (small sheets of fabric/paper with watercolor pigment on them). You use them the same way you would use any other watercolor paints. They ROCK... very bright and vivid.

Both are fun to use... it just depends on the effect you are looking for and whether you like to color or paint.

Paper is likely to buckle from the moisture content I'd expect. Why not try a sturdy cardstock to paint on, and then mount this onto your card? My article on how to make a notebook/cover has some info' that might help with your painting too.

I DO! I just stamp an image onto regular cardstock with a waterproof ink. I then paint away! Sometimes I thin the paints down to a wash and sometimes I use them thick from the tube.

You can get lots of great effects from acrylic paints.

I didn't mention this in my previous post because I hadn't found it yet, but another medium is Derwent's Inktense Pencils. I get them from www.dickblick.com
and just love em. They look like regular watercolor pencils, but are really intense (like the name). Check em out. Derwent also has a website and has some partial tutorials that are great.
