Default Marvy Uchida button punch

Hi all,
Has anyone tried it ? It punches a big and medium round button (plus embosses them) as well as a small square button. I found the product tremendously interesting until I discovered you can only use quite thin paper. So I don't think Bazzil paper can be used for instance.
Has anyone bought it ?

Thanks a lot
Stephanie

I resisted the urge to buy a button punch for some time knowing I'd really want to punch something thicker than paper. Just last weekend I bought a button die from My Favorite Things that cuts four buttons at once. All four are round (no square ones) and the die will cut through thin chipboard, felt, etc. Can't wait to use it! I love chipboard buttons. Take a look HERE. Not sure if they emboss or not. I guess one option for your punch would be to layer 2 or more layers of the punched button to give it some thickness.

Thanks a lot for the link Bbgirl66, the die looks great. I think I'm going to buy it but I don't like the fact that you have to cut 4 buttons even when you only need one...
I found Martha stewart also has an embossed button punch.

The MS one was the one I always had my eye on but never bought. I know her punches don't go through thick cardstock. As for the die, you could always cut out a small scrap and place it over the button you were wishing to cut without cutting all four. I've done that with other multi cut dies. Good luck!

That's a great idea ! ... but I just ordered the MS punch. I'll tell you what paper I can cut with as soon as I get it.

Would love to know how well it embosses too! I have many MS punches but mostly border punches. I've never tried one of her embossing punches. Thanks!

The trick with the QuikStick is just a little bit at a time. If too much is out...it will bend and string. It just takes a little practice. After you've used your new product, let us know what you think!

I hope it embosses cause I just bought it. I am so easy, Ha! Its ok that it does more than one at a time. I will just start a container for my paper buttons.

The MFT die embosses beautifully. You may need to shim depending on your machine. Here's an example with buttons made from the die. This is PTI cardstock cut with my Cuttlebug. The pinkish ones are cardstock, the white one is an actual button.

Wow Kerry...thanks for sharing! I wouldn't have known they weren't real buttons if you hadn't told me. Now I can't wait to try my new die out. Beautiful card! Thanks again.

Maybe I got a bad one but I've been disappointed with the MS button punch. I used thinner paper but it doesn't seem to punch a clean button at all (very ragid around the edges).

I found a fun little way of making a flat paper button with the double hole punch and a circle punch. First do the double holes, then center the circle punch and punch down -voila! You can even do a square button. Hope this helps!

They say to sharpen punches, punch a sheet of aluminum foil several times. I've never tried it but it can't hurt!

Why didn't I think of that!? I've doubled punched a single hole punch to achieve the two holes but I've always done it by trying to center them in the already punched circle. Doing the reverse and center the circle punch over the two holes is a MUCH better idea! Even though I have the dies...sometimes I like a flat, non-embossed button.

TFS!

I got my MS button punch in the mail this morning and couldn't resist having a go at it at lunchtime. Not only does it also work with thicker paper but it even works much BETTER with it ! When you use thinner paper, the edges are not neat and tend to crumple to take the shape of the button...
