I don't know if this is the correct area to post my question. I am in need of markers to add some color to my hand made cards. Are there any suggestions on which brand is best?
I know that there are quite a few stampers/crafters who really swear by Copics. I can never get the darn things to color correctly. I really like the SU regular markers - they come with a wider tip and the other end has a narrow tip. Lots of color choices. I have quite a few Tombow markers that I really like also. Their only drawback is that they only have the wide tip end.
Another thought....I like to use blender pens, mine happen to be Stampin' Up. They allow you to pick up lighter and darker shades of the same color of stamp pad.
Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to check these out and then decide which one I am going to try. The blender pens seems interesting. I may start with those.
Copics are lovely markers, and really high quality. They have quite a loyal following among cardmakers. Also, they are quite expensive, at least for my budget. I just can't bear to spend $5 or $6 for one marker.
I like the color intensity of alcohol based markers, like Copics, rather than the water based markers. Since I couldn't justify the cost of Copics, I got a set of Bic Mark Its, and also a set of fine point colored Sharpies. They can be found very reasonably priced lots of places, like office supply stores, Target, Walmart, etc. in sets of 24 colors, and sometimes 36 colors.
The pale pastel colors are still pretty bright, so I did get a few Copics in lighter colors to fill in my sets.
I did not know the Copics cost $5 to $6 for one marker. I will need inexpensive markers to start off with. My budget will not allow me to purchase the Copics at this time. I am going to look at the link you included. Thank You!

Yes, they are pricey for sure. Here is a set of 36 on sale for $188.73!
I have used several types markers but they all leave a trackand no mater how I use the blender I still see the marks. And the alcohol based makers show thru the back of the paper. I bought some really good colord pencils and used baby oil to smooth out the color. They don't shade much or blend as well as the tombows and copic but the have a smooth look when I am finished.
If you have an ACMoore near you, you often can find sets of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers on sale for about $7.88.
A brand name colored pencil set or watercolor pencil set would be nice. With a coupon you could buy a Derwent Inktense pencil set that are ink in pencil form and are used like watercolor. I bought a 12 pencil set with a coupon at ACMoore and now, of course, I wish I had the 72 pencil set because I want more colors! LOL!
PITT Big Brush Pens are India ink markers that are nice. Not sure where you would find them using a coupon.

Bugga, can you use a Copic blender with Bics and Sharpies? Can you blend the markers like you do Copics? I have some of all those markers but haven't tried using them together. I tend to think of the Bic Mark It markers as being quite opaque.
I didn't want to invest much in a product I had not tried, so I didn't go with Copics. AND this weekend they are additional 20% off. Free shipping with $35 order. I bought 3 pink-to-red markers to blend, and 2 yellow tones, and 2 green tones, a blender pen and one brown marker. So far I'm having fun with them. VERY smooth and no lines. I plan to buy more.
I really like Tim Holtz distress markers and Tombow duo tip markers. It is so hard to say which markers work best. Sometimes it depends on the paper your using or how heavy you color as to what the outcome is. Altho the above are my favorite I also have Le Plume Marvy and American Craft markers. Ive used all of them on 1 stamped image before because each set just happened to have the color I wanted to use. I say buy what you can afford add a blender pen and decide if they work for you. Water color pencils are also a good choice, easy to store, don't dry out, blendable and lots of colors and price ranges. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did not know that using color pencils and baby oil will work. I have plenty of color pencils, now all I will need to get is some baby oil. I will try this technique also.
Many use gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) for blending of colored pencils. Go to the colored pencil thread in this forum and you'll see lots of discussions of it.
Here's a link to a video from our very own SCS colored pencil (and all around) guru, Dina Kowal. She demonstrates several ways to blend colored pencils, including the use of baby oil.
Good luck finding your coloring method of choice! It was a journey for me. I ended up with watercolor pencils as my go-to, though I do own and use water- based markers and regular colored pencils as well.

I hear you! It took a long time for me to get the Copics I wanted. I'm finding I'm using them less and less. The best purchase I made was Prisma color pencils, using a little Gamsol you can get wonderful blending. Today I'm loving so many other mediums like watercolor pencils and painting with ink pads. Spectrum Noir has refillable markers now, but I've never tried them. Inktense pencils (watercolor) and Polychromos (oil pencils) are also favorites of mine. Bic markers are also a good marker to start with.
