In my Cuttlebug, I use the A plate, the B plate, the Nestie with the die cut still in it facing up, the tan embossing pad, another B plate, and three sheets of cardstock. I get perfect embossing every time.
DO NOT use both tan mats with the A plate and 2 B plates. :o I cracked a B plate right in HALF! LOL~

I just ordered my first set of Nesties but I don't have a "tan embossing pad". Is there anything else that can be subsituted there? Or what is the approximate thickness of it, I can surely come up with something. I'll be using my Cuttlebug.
Also, does it cut through all 3 pieces of cardstock?

I've heard that you can use "plumbers gasket" that can be found at home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes.
The three pieces of cardstock are just shims on top of the top B plate.
To cut I use the A plate, the C plate, the nestie (cutting side up), the cardstock/paper that I want to cut, a B plate. It cuts perfectly, but it DOES leave a mark in the B plate, just like any Cuttlebug die does.

Thanks for this. I am going to try it this way. I broke two of the B plates so far trying to emboss.
Thank you babydal - guess I didn't look at your stack well enough to see that the 3 pieces was just a shim, LOL.
And thanks for that video link Wendy! I watched it and took notes. Now I just need to find a substitute for the tan embossing mat. I can look for plumbers gasket. I briefly saw somewhere that someone was using a piece of one of those flexible food cutting mats. Naturally can't remember where I saw it now, and I'm not sure which "stack" it was used as a shim in. Anyone else try this?
