Question I heard a rumor...

I heard a RUMOR and am wondering if it's true. A friend told me that a demo at an acquaintance's workshop (not our regular demo) mentioned that SU! was going to be discontinuing the Craft pads. Now, my friend admitted that the workshop was a little noisy at this point and she may have mis-heard what the demo said. Has anyone else heard this? I can't really imagine they will discontinue them because it is their only archival choice for scrapbookers.

As my CYA--I am not a demo leaking facts, I am just asking for clarification on a rumor I've heard. Please don't flame me if I'm letting some super secret out.

I'm pretty UP on rumors and I have NOT heard that one!
I would be **SHOCKED** as they've only been out a short time!

I'm really glad to hear someone "in the know" refute the rumor. I couldn't really imagine it either, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Unless they've reformulated the classic ink to make it fade-resistant for scrapbooking purposes, I can't imagine this happening.

I've actually been hoping the do away with the craft inks in favor of chalk pads. Or at least add chalk pads in the full size and all the colors. DROOL!! I don't have anything against the craft ink, I just find I don't reach for them because of the longer dry time needed.

Just to build on what MonTigg said, they are also often used to emboss in color, using clear embossing powder. The ink is thicker and kind of sticky, which is why they take longer to dry than the classic ink. They're also great for stamping a light color on darker cardstock.

Why not just email SU and ASK????? They are great at replying quickly and then you would have your answer 'direct from the source'. JMHO.

If were true DS probably wouldn't tell you or even know....but my hunch is that it is a rumor and nothing else...

Nancy,

SU Craft pads are Pigment Ink pads (vs a dye ink pad). They are water based, which means that since they don't contain oil they don't bleed when dry. They are best used on an absorbent medium (ie: cs), if you use it on glossy or a coated paper, it's recommended that you heat set it or emboss the ink. Pigment Inks are nontoxic, ph balanced (which makes them archival safe for scrapbooking) and fade resistant(with proper care).

Craft pads have a longer drying time, so you need to use care when working with them as to not smear your stamped image.

Are these archival and fade resistant? Will they replace the need for craft ink? I would love to know that!

To the original poster: I am a new demo and checked everywhere I know how and can't find anything about retiring craft pads.

I seriously doubt it. They demonstrated them heavily at the DC Regionals at the beginning of April.

Jeanne, yes the chalk pads are archival and fade resistant!!

I'm DYING for full size chalk pads!!!

Since they show craft pads in the new design and new colors in Stampin' Success's preview of the new color, I'm betting they're DEFINITELY in

I just re-read the article in the may 2005 Stampin' Success mag (magazine for demonstrators) and on the page where they are talking about the new colors there is a sidebar about new graphics on the sides of the pads..."The end of each new pad will now feature a solid block of the Stampin' Up color with the Classic or Craft name for easy identification."

If they were going to discontinue craft pads, why redesign for a 2 month period. If I were a betting women, I would guess that your friend heard about retiring COLORS of both classic and craft pads, but didn't hear the whole story.

That would just be too much of a change in one year! Besides, every time I have seen Shelli or one of her daughters on DIY stamping, they have used craft pads!

Default wouldn't surprise me

It would not surprise me if they did. They have had a lot of trouble with them. Just last week I got a few and two out of three were horrible and gooey and sticky and leaky .... well you get the picture. When I called DS they said that it was still an issue that they were working.
Also, if you noticed they did not offer the new pads on craft for the preorder....hmmmm, makes you wonder why.
But, like a previous post mentioned unless they have made their dye pads even better, it is probably unlikely.
Besides, I could not afford that scenario! All new pads. My wallet is cringing or worse yet my husbands..
If they do discontinue, I certainly hope that they come out with embossing powder in all colors.
I don't know how that information would get out either.

Just my thoughts.

ColorBox makes full-sized chalk ink pads. I bought a few before SU! had the petals for sale.
