Default Help with glitter

I am a Stickler glitter kind of gal, but I also have some amazing glitter that I never use. The other day I thought why am I not using all of this gorgeous stuff? I realized that the answer is that I don't know how. What kind of glue do you use and how do you apply it? Any tips for using glitter would be greatly appreciated! TIA

If you really like less mess you can mix glitter with crystal effects or clear glue and make your own stickles glitter glue

I also like using glitter to accent flowers, highlight lines on line images, etc. A fine tip glue pen works great for that.

I've cut shapes from adhesive sheets and then stuck glitter to it as well.
just about any type of glue or other adhesive will work with glitter.

I use double-sided tape a lot, more than glue; it's great for making borders. I also use sheets of double-sided adhesive to die-cut shapes. If you click the link to the TLC challenge in my signature, it's all about glitter.
Also, sometimes I sprinkle a little over heat embossing, before it has set.

I'm just like you - I love sparkly! I mostly use Stickles, but I have quite a few packets/bottles of glitter that I couldn't resist because they looked so pretty sitting on the store shelf. Now they sit on my craft room shelf looking pretty, lol.

I've used the tape method a few times with limited success, but it was a lot of trouble and messy, so I haven't done it much.

Thanks for the tips, and yes, I meant to say Stickles not Stickler!! I was thinking a liquid glue was the way to go, but it sounds like many of you use some kind of tape or sheet. That is something I will need to try. Thanks for your suggestions.

You do know that the natural state of glitter is to float around in the air and NOT permanently stick to anything that you want it to? :? Best thing I've found is to suspend it in Crystal Effects. Needless to say I don't have very much loose glitter.

It seems to find a way to permanently stick to my face... ;)

You can also use it on acetate/OHP film, using a clear drying PVA glue.

The butterfly panel had the elements done first, and left to dry, then the rest of the background done in white glitter.

Your examples are stunning!

What exactly is a PVA glue?

PVA is what I call "school" glue (something like Elmers, I'd think) though wood glue from the tool shed is also PVA ;-). I was going to suggest that technique. There's a tutorial for it here:Splitcoaststampers - Sparkly Stained Glass Technique Tutorial by Beate Johns
I've used Glossy Accents any time I've tried it.

In fact, there are quite a lot of tutorials in Resources which use glitter: Splitcoaststampers - Resources

I tried the Glitter Window one for the first time in the last VSN, and loved how it turned out! And I'm a big fan of the Glitter Stencilling one, too .

Also - talk about timing! Just today I received this beautiful card in the post from Marie-alice (ladybug91743).
She describes how she made it by laying some lace over sticky paper and sprinkling the blue glitter on, then removing the lace and adding white glitter to fill the gaps. I want to try this myself with maybe a stencil or a doily...
Sorry it's not the best photo, I just took it at my desk with my phone to upload quickly. It's really sparkly, but it's quite an overcast day here.

Cook22, if you try it with a stencil- a metal one- use a bar of hand soap to rub over the back of the stencil before you press it onto the sticky paper. This stops it sticking too much, but doesn't affect the stickiness of the surface for holding glitter when you take the stencil away. Another tip I saw demoed was to be sure to peel the sticky paper away from the stencil, rather than try to lift the stencil from the paper? Makes it much less likely to bend the stencil. That is, lay it upside down, hold the stencil by one corner with a fingernail, then peel back the sticky paper.
This card was done with double sided sticky sheet over a stamped image, then sprinkled all over with Glamour Dust.

I too use the double sided tape. If you use a die cutting machine, electronic or manual, you can cover a sheet of cardstock with double sided tape and then die cut the design on it. Make sure that the die doesn't cut all the way through - just the tape. Then you can use glitter to "color" the image. Remove tape from specific areas of the die and cover them with one color of glitter then do it for another area. Like this: Ribbons, etc.: Glittered background

Here's a card I did ages ago using adhesive sheet. I cut squares in it and peeled off select backing pieces and added glitter. I then took some more square backing pieces off and added a different color, and so on...

I also use the double sided tape if I want a straight line of glitter. Or float "chunky" glitter in a treat cup filled with mineral oil (snow globe effect) I also use SU! Heat and stick powder for large images with fine glitter.

I did this card with a lot of glitter:

The strips down the sides are sookwang double-sided tape with glitter, and the flourishes are done with Clearsnap Design Adhesives (they come in lots of shapes and themes and are perfect for adding glitter - https://www.google.ca/search?q=clear...ml%3B219%3B450.

On other cards, I've used a Quickie Glue Pen for adding glitter to small areas, or any clear glue for larger areas. I've never tried the Glossy Accents with glitter but now I've read about it on this thread, I'll try that.

Love my glitter!

I use double sided tape if I want stripes. But you need to burnish it with your finger to avoid shedding. I use a glue pen for accents but you have to set it aside and let it really dry or you can smudge it. I use double sides adhesive sheets for dies and then glittering it. (I like Ellen Hutson's b/c it is thin and cuts really well vs score tape that I have shim for very detailed stuff)

This company is ALL about the glitter-they make it. Have TONS of tutorials:

https://sparklensprinkle.com/

Just dont blame me if you get sucked into the glitter vortex-they make a lot of nice colors! LOL

if you want to use a wet glue rather than the tape then use a 'dries clear' tacky glue (think the tombow id like that, but not 100% certain), or a quickie glue pen or a zig 2-way glue pen.
add the glitter whilst they are still blue rather than clear. add to the tacky glue before it starts to dry to ensure a good stick. tap off well to remove as much loose glitter as possible. you can also brush it off once the glue is dry.

i like to use Sparkle n'Sprinkle's brushable glue to give a little dimension to stamped floral, clouds, etc. I use a fine brush to lightly brush the glue in certain areas, then sprinkle on the glitter. There are glitter colors like cool highlights, iris white, etc that just give a nice shimmer accent. I like to use GlitterRitz cool highlight glitter on double sided adhesive paper, burnish it with finger, then use the peel & stick Elizabeth outline stickers and color in with Copics. Real wow effect!

Art institute liquid glue is great for adhering glitter. It dries quickly and clearly with good coverage when you want a stamped area filled with glitter.
