Default Help with Copic Markers!

So I just got my copic ciao set A markers last week. I've been waiting and waiting forever to get them! I've watched a couple videos on blending and such... I am using black stampin up ink and I am stamping on the glossy white stampin up paper. My issue is no matter how long I let the black image dry whenever I try to color it the copics smear the black ink. Should I be using different ink or different paper? I tried white paper from michaels and the copics seemed to really bleed through that paper and the colors weren't as nice. Thanks in advance for all your advice!

Congratulations on getting your set of Copic's. As for paper and ink I usthe Memento Tuxedo Black ink and Gina K cardstock. The Copic ink is suppose to bleed through the cardstock some. If you go to I like markers site http://www.ilikemarkers.blogspot.com/ There is a section on what kinds of cardstock and ink that are good to use with the Copic's. Good luck and have fun with your new toys.

Different Ink & paper ~ the best ink for Copics that I've found is Memento Tuxedo Black. And if you don't want bleeding thru ~ you'll really need to get GinaK Lux (not sure the right name) ~ I personally use GP from Walmart ~ and it does bleed thru to the back ~ but for me it works...

For the best help you really should go to the I Like Markers blog by Marianne Walker (she's the true expert)

You are going to get a totally different look (and feel) blending your Copics on glossy paper than you would on regular matte cardstock. Don't worry, the ink is supposed to bleed through the back... that's normal. (Except on Gina K's 120 lb... it's ultra thick and there is no bleed through.)

There are some favorite paper and favorite inks (personally I use GP white from Walmart for normal stuff and Gina K for special occasions and I use either Memento Black or Adirondack ink.) BUT... I teach a Copics class and they are all learning that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Try a few different inks and papers and find a combo that works for you.

Best of luck with your Copics!

I've just bought some copic markers and have not yet used them, I'm going to have to experiment now that I have some hints.

Like others said--change your ink and your cs. Don't use glossy--it won't dry.

You can also use cs from Walmart. The Georgia Pacific #110 that is in their office supply dept. works too!

Have fun!

versafine ink works great also
I use Paper Trey Ink cardstock. It absorbs and blends perfectly.

I have never had any success with glossy CS and copics

I just switched to Memento black this weekend and I love it. I should have switched sooner.

I had the same problem originally. I switched to Memento Black Ink (also now have brown) and it has worked like a charm! I won't use anything else. Congrats on the new Copics!

Do you heat set the memento black? I have that pad (only used it a couple times) and it seemed a little more wet than the Adirondack Pitch Black so I've continued to use the Adirondack. What I like about Adirondack pitch black is how well it cleans off the rubber after I use it.

I don't heat set my Memento black.. I just let it dry a few seconds, and I haven't had any trouble with bleeding at all.

I have not seen this suggestion much if at all on this site but I have just purchased a marker pad - a special pad for use with markers. It is very thin, but ultra smooth and shows only a little or faint bleed through at the back. i found that to be really good when i do not want a thick or heavy layer for my card. It is pretty pricey though, about the same cost as a pad of watercolour paper. I know Copics have their own marker paper pads but this is from another brand.

yeah, SU ink does not work with Copics at all. Versafine works MOSTLY, but sometimes it smears (like with yellow colors, for some reason). You can always clear emboss a pigment ink, too...
I personally didn't like the marker paper I got--it was too slippery to stamp on, and the markers didn't blend as well to me (they seemed to be sitting on top of the paper more instead of soaking into it). Maybe it was just me, or just the particular brand I got (Neopiko paper) but it certainly didn't convince me to invest in another pad
