Default Have you seen these...

I saw these in the store the other day...had to have been HL since that is the only place I've been where I could have seen them.

http://www.spectrumnoir.com/triblend...cohol-markers/

Has anyone seen them or tried them? The main issue I had with their main marker collection is the color ranges. This might be a great solution to that issue.

Yes, I own several. Love them! They are the same inks and colors as the regular sized Spectrum Noir markers. Each marker has 3 colors that blend well. They have the colors that are missing from the marker sets that contain 6 markers. These color numbers that are missing from the sets of 6 are found in the larger sets, like brights, pastels, darks, neutrals and names like that.

I have been purchasing at Hobby Lobby with a coupon. Only one didn't work well and we took it back and exchanged it. The manager opened it before we lift to make sure it worked as he didn't want us bringing it home and having issues.

Love the idea, hate Spectrums in general - hard pass...

That sounds harsh, but I own 168 of the darn things and at least half of them pull apart instead of opening properly, several are NOT the color they're supposed to be (I have a blue one that colors baby pink, for example), they dry up quickly - yup, not a fan.

I still use them and will continue to do so until they become unusable, but they're still not my faves.

I have noticed that the tri-color ones do not pull apart like the original ones can do. I have a few of the second generation ones that pull apart and I fight to get them back together properly, so they will work again. My first generation ones dry quicker than the second generation ones, and when any are dry, I toss them.

I do love the Tri-color ones, though.

Thanks, Lisa, for adding more info to the conversation. Maybe I'll pick up a couple to take for a test run and see if it alters my opinion...

Is it the lightest one? Mine comes out like a lavender pinky bluish grey color. But its so light I can't really tell what it is, lol. (I have all the Scrapbook.com hybrids and they have a light blue that stamps like that for me too.)

I have all the Spectrums and what really annoys me about the company is how they come out with different versions of the same medium. They have the Noirs, the Illustrators, the Coloristas, and now the Triblends. All lines have the same colors (but not all colors) at different price points and sort of different delivery systems (different nibs). I started buying the Coloristas thinking they were new colors to supplement the Noirs until I did some research and realized they were the same exact colors of my Noirs just with different names. I wish they would put their energy into making just one decent marker. Maybe they could do a marker with swap-out nibs. Not replaceable like with the crazy-expensive brush nibs but something that could, I don't know, maybe snap on and off or something like that so you have one marker and choice of nibs. Why am I picturing a garden hose nozzle??

I have all the Noirs not because I'm a coloring guru, but because I suffer from Full-Set-Syndrome. Overall, I like the idea of the Triblends, having the 3 most complementary colors together but since I have the Noirs I'll just use the Triblends as a guide on what colors to blend. Maybe when those colors run out instead of getting refills I'll replace them with the Triblends.
Sara demo'd them on HSN recently and they blended so beautifully for her.

I must add that I have the whole set of SN markers (I know, full-set-syndrome). But I decided to go with a different option. I didn't really like the way the SN worked. Blending was an issue for me. That's a different issue though.

I'm using SU's alcohol markers and finding that they are just enough for me. I prefer the brush tip for one. I can blend well with them. They aren't wickedly expensive. So that's my choice for alcohol markers right now.

But I do have to add that I am going to keep several of my SN markers that I will definitely use. I kept a few flesh color markers. And one or two pale blues that work for a background outline. Also a couple of sets of 4-5 grays that I can work with for other things. I'm trying out a few other very pale colors as well...but all those pales are for a base coat under some of my Chameleon markers. Here's one card that I base-coated with light blue then layered with a Chameleon.

Back to the tri-blend from SN...I wonder if these will end up replacing the set of 168? I know that many of the large set markers are duplicated colors.

Diane, the coloring you are doing with the combination of markers is beautiful!

Agreed, agreed, agreed. I have the set and used to love them. Someone in my shoebox group started bringing Copics to color with so I got to use them a lot. At first I didn't like the brush tip, but now I love it. So much easier to lay down color. I often use only one color (rather than blending in a few shades for highlighting) and the Copics work best for me.

The SU ones are good and I like having one brush tip and one small tip. But their light/dark shades are too close for my taste -- not enough difference between the light and the dark.

So I'm using my SN for now, along with my SU and the few Copics I own. I'll use the SN and SU till they dry out and then chuck them. When I need new pens or new colors, I'll replace with Copics.

Forgot to answer the OP: I have used the tri-color markers a couple of times. They seem pretty good. For me though, it bugs me switching out and opening and flipping all over the place. And I prefer a brush tip. Color range on the individual pens seemed good, but they just felt too fiddly and annoying for me.

Thanks for that tidbit - I will now DEFINITELY be leaving these new-fangledy markers well alone! I am THE most impatient crafter on the planet, so I'm sure I'd be bonkers after one coloring session...

We were given a couple in a Stamp & SB Expo class. They were fine, easy to use, kind of fun - and really large. It hit some of us that they were awfully big chunks of plastic to not be able to refill them. And if one color runs out that kind of messes up the system.

Here is the review from The Frugal Crafter: Easy to Use Markers for Stampers who Like to Blend! | The Frugal Crafter Blog

I watched this video in June. I have never refilled any of my Spectrum Noir markers, but Lindsay tells how these could be refilled. I have quite a few of these and use them quite a bit. There is a lot of removing the cap and placing it back, but I do this with all of my markers. Anyway, Lindsay's blog post and video might help someone wanting more information.

I picked up a couple of them to try, I really like them.
Here's a card tutorial creating an ombre' background with them if anyone is interested:
