hat pins?? where to find? *merged*
Hi,
Where would a person find hat pins? (like in the kit SU! is selling...Pretty Papers?). Yes, I know I can get them from there, but I am looking for a cheaper alternative as this kit retails for 40 bucks in Canada!! US...29.95!! What gives with that??
I tried Michaels here in Calgary....they do not sell them.

Stampingzoo, based in Ontario, is having a closing out sale and they have hat pins. Shipping might be delayed a little with so many people ordering but if you're interested you can find them here: http://www.stampingzoo.com/store/WsQ...Yes&Thumbs=100
I placed a huge order this morning and can't wait to get it!

I can only so far seem to find them at Joann's online, but they are one to a package for $1.99 each.
Here is a link

Do you have a Bead store near you?
Most Craft stores carry beads and Jewerly findings.
You could make your own. They are very easy to make.
I found a couple of places online that ship to Canada as well as other places.
http://www.bjcraftsupplies.com/jewel...ings/pin01.asp
The hat pins are at the bottom of the page.
And this place. I use to purchase things from them a long time ago.

They always had great service.

Thanks for this tip. I think I just bought them out of their hat pins. They were super cheap. I got tons of them since the packs were only 45 cents each. Plus I wanted to make the most from the shipping. Still a great deal compared to the 10 you get in the Paper Pretties kit. I like the kit and may still get it, but what happens when you run out of hat pins? Order a whole new kit? I'm turning vintage and planning to use hat pins in many of my cards, as I love the look.

Do you have a Joanne's near you? They had some at my Joanne's in the embellishment section and they were 30% off!

I, too, would love to find the hatpins included with the Pretties Kit. I found the half pearls at Hobby Lobby today. You can find the beads just about anywhere. But the hatpins are the ones I think will be harder to come by. Anyone purchase any laterly?

Denise, can't wait to see what you do with them! I was wondering (don't have my catty with me and not even supposed to be on here now, LOL) are they like corsage pins? Maybe a floral supply, like save_on_crafts, might have them. Cheap, that is.

Hat Pins
I want my Stamp Club to make some Victorian-looking cards for Christmas. I want them to use a Hat Pin as an embellishment. I want them to make their own hat pin with beads etc. However, I need to buy just the pins. I want maybe 4" long with the bottom part so that the pin doesn't come out. Any sources for these hat pins? Thanks in advance.

Hobby Lobby had them and they were on sale 1/2 off this week. I got the 3 1/4" ones 2 for $0.50

Hat Pin Caps???? Where do I find them?
I bought a bunch of hat pins and the pearls and clear facets, but I couldn't find the end piece. I looked at Michael's for this. Is there a certain name I should be looking for instead of end cap????
I could of just bought the Pretties Kit...but I did the most inexpensive way.
Anyone know? Maybe online?
Thanks,
Sheila

I have searched and searched for the stick pins with the end cap, but have never found a source. I, too, do not want to pay $30 for the Pretties Kit just for the stick pins.
Let me know if you find any!

Sounds like you need to find a bead store. I can't think of any urls at the moment, unfortunately. Try googling for online bead stores, then for stick pins.

Hmm. I like a challenge! How about this? Look down about halfway on the page to the "bullet style" hatpin clutches:

I have used Crystal Effects to glue a flat metal flower bead on to the end of hatpins.

Thank you muchly!!!! I've been looking everywhere for these clutches (didn't know that was what they were called). Yippee, now I can do the "pretties" look without having to spend the big bucks!

hat pins
Ok - I keep seeing the cutest cards with hat pins on them. Is this a SU item or is there some other source for them? I haven't seen them in any of my LSS's.

The SU hat pins are in the Pretties Kit - see the catalog link here:
http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/stampi...rcularid=10999
It's quite pricey, but so worth it. Let me know if you need a demo, happy to help.

Thanks. I was hoping to get just the hatpins. But the kit looks pretty interesting. Hmmm.... something to think about.

I've seen a few cards that just use regular pins (the kind with the pearly ball at the end - how technical is that) - I even seen some people change the color of the ball at the end - I think with copic markers. I can't find any example now, but it's usually pushed through a ribbon knot. I keep meaning to try this because it looks really neat.
Or I've seen pearls threaded onto a shorter pin, see Debbie Olsen's card here:
http://debbiedesigns.typepad.com/mus...s-challen.html
These would be cheaper alternatives.

hat pins
I would like to find same or similar hat pins like those in Stampin'Up!'s Pretties Kit. The kit has a quality pin, but I've used them up and do not want to purchase the entire kit. Does anyone have an alternative resource for hat pins?

Heidi Grace pins are the ones I used.
Here in the UK, you can buy the longer dressmaking pins (with coloured 'pearls' on the end) from the local haberdashery
ETA: Just double checked and the ones I have are called Heidi Grace decorative pins and Heidi Grace heart pins.

If you have a Pat Catan's in your area, (OH & PA) they sell the hat pins. Also, try the beading supplies at places like Hobby Lobby & JoAnns

Just wondering if anyone heard or knows the story behind not mailing pins on cards to anyone? Is this an old wives tale?
Just wondering.

I would think mailing something with a straight pin in it would be dangerous. I have friends who are mailmen (or do I now have to call them mailpersons, since one of them is a woman)?? Anyway....how would you keep the pin from poking through the card/envelope? I'm sure there are lots of other things you could use if mailing the item other than a real pin.
If not mailing, I like the idea of using a regular pin (gold or silver) and threading a color bead of some sort on it.

Hat Pins and the mail...
If you want to protect something that you are mailing simply cut a small piece of bubbly wrap and place over the 'area' that is to be protected. It may add a bit of volume and change your postage rate, but it is worth it to have your work arrive as beautifuly as you intended it to be.

If these "pins" actually have a sharp end, bubble wrap would not keep it from poking through. You would need something more substantial like a glue blob or sticky raised dot. And that would look real nice, wouldn't it?? NOT!
