Default Fiskars Texture embossing plates?

Anyone have any first-hand experience using these dry embossing templates for background texture? I saw two different packs at Target for $11.99. Each pack had 6 different templates in it, and you bought a round nubby stylus thing to get the image to your paper. This seems like a cheap alternative to the cuttlebug folders (if I'm thinking of the right product).

Thoughts? Comments?

I got some for Christmas a few years back and I've never used them. I am actually thinking of getting rid of them. IMO they don't have the same patterns as does the Cuttlebug, even if they are cheaper.

I have them, I like them. If I'm doing a lot, the nubby tool gets to be a lot to rub around. It really does work. Use a coupon and try a pack out.

I had mine for years and never really used them much (too awkward IMO), but now that I have my cuttlebug, I use them all the time (but *in* the bug...). Sorry, afraid that wasn't much help, was it?

I have two different sets. I love them! It can get a bit tiring using the tool if you are embossing a bunch of paper, but if you're just using it for one card at a time, then it's not so bad. I've never used a Cuttlebug, so I really can't compare it to that. All in all though, I like mine!

You can use them in the cuttlebug? Now I REALLY need the cuttlebug. I got the embossing folders and they work in my Zip-E-Mate, but the dies don't and neither do the Fiscars. I like that cuttlebug and fiscars don't have the same ones. Thanks for pushing to get a cuttlebug!LOL!

I use mine in the cuttlebug. It takes 5 seconds to get great results for quarter sheet. Before the cuttlebug, my wrists and hand would get really tired, even painful from holding and pushing on the stylus... I would get a cuttlebug if you want to use those.

I use mine in my Cuttlebug. Be sure to use a BISK or equivalent and also mist the cardstock. Very nice results.

I have these and use them without a cuttlebug - but I don't really like the nubby tool from Fiskars for them. To save wear and tear on your hands and wrists, use the Empressor embossing tool from EK Success instead. You don't need to press as hard to get a good impression.

I love being able the use the Fiskar plates in my CB. They were terribly hard on my hands. But they broaden my choices of backgrounds for using in the CB. Some are very generic and others specific but so are the embossing folders. Be sure to mist your paper before it putting through the CB-it makes a world of difference.

I got some of the plates as a gift but thought it was too much trouble to emboss an entire page. When people started talking about using their Cuttlebugs with them I measured them, had my husband cut off about 1/2 inch on each long side with a jigsaw and I now use them in my ZipEMate.

So you can use fiskars embossing plates in cuttlebug??? I looked at them a long time ago wondering if I should buy them and now I have the cuttlebug and would still like to buy them. LOL but why mist the paper before using them? Does it work without water? Thanks Pattylee

Thanks Margaret for the tip about cutting the plate. I have a Zip-E-Mate. Maybe my DH can cut them for me!

Big Impressions Starter Kit. You could also try using a mouse pad, but make sure it isn't too tight going through the bug.

With the one-sided texture plates you just don't get a very good impression unless you mist your cardstock first. It's a must or you can hardly see the impression.

Good Luck!

Hum. Never thought of using them in a machine. I wonder if they will work with the Big Shot. I'm working tomorrow so will give it a try. My boss sold the nobby tool to a customer because she said no one used the Fiskars texture plates. I'll let you know if they work in the Big Shot too.

I use them in my Big Kick. They don't make as deep an impression as the Cuttlebug embossing folders but they work fine. I think they are very similar to the Sizzix Texturz.

awesome the Big Kick is the same machine as the Big Shot just the sizzix colour version. I'll have to try it at work tomorrow. May try wetting the paper to see what it will do.

I have the plates and just tried them out on my Big Kick. I used a piece of felt between the paper and the top plate. Here's my first card:

I used the fiskars plates in my cuttlebug and thought it worked just fine. When I tried to mist the paper it got all warped and I could not get flat again. How do you get it to lay flat again?

I tried not to get it too wet. But mine was a little warped also. I used stick glue all over the back and made sure the sides had plenty of glue. I did have to hold and press until the glue dried. It took a little more time than usual. Some of the other pieces I ran thru the BigKick, I just used a piece of felt between the paper and BK top plate, and then ran them thru the roller a couple of times. That seemed to work and no warping. I did have to put a small piece of tape to hold the paper on the texture plate to keep it from slipping, when running it thru twice.
