I'm lookin' for suggestions on double stick tape. My cards seem to fall apart within 2 weeks of making them. I have used SU, scotch, elmers and darice brands double stick tapes.........it happens with all of them. I have the tape stored in a container with a lid to prevent dryout. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and anyone have any tips?

Sorry I can't help you. I use the Scotch double stick tape and don't have any problem. I love the stuff! Hope you find something that works for you.

I had that problem when I used the Tombow dry roll on adhesive (SU snail - same stuff). I had to re-glue all my scapbook pages I used that stuff on - I wasn't impressed. The last straw was a card I made that fell apart within about 2 weeks (or was it 2 days) of making it. I picked it up to move it and the layers just fell right off. I use the ATG now and haven't had that problem since I started using it over a year now. Things are still stuck together.

ATG, definitely. And you can buy refills in bulk at a cost of about $1.20 a roll if you have a group of people to go in with (or want to buy a lot yourself).

This is all I've used as well for 15+ years and I make a ba-zillion cards annually. Have never had an issue.

I've never been a fan of the snail stuff/Tombow others listed in posts. The big claim is it holds but I've personally seen many a card fall apart when someone has used that as an adhesive.

Quirky tapes that work well-
Double Sided Tape- found in the hardware store. Used for window sealing and carpeting.
Wig Tape- Double sided tape to hold down wigs. I make dolls.
Automotive Tape- It's the black line double sided tape used by mechanics. This is the same exact thing as red line tape.

My vote is for Scor-Tape. I use it for all my projects and they don't come apart.

I prefer using either Scor-Tape, or the red tape sold by SU! or available at Michael's. All of those are super-sticky, can hold flat or embossed layers together, and nothing has ever come apart. Scotch Double-Stick tape works too, is readily available and is nice to have on hand. ... I like to touch the tape I'm using rather than holding an ATG dispenser, but to each his/her own.

Gosh! I feel so naive after reading everyone's post on this thread. I'm new to card making as of this past Jan. when I took a non-credit course on paper arts at the local state college. The instructor told us to ALWAYS use the permanent glue dots and NEVER use any kind of tape if we wanted our cards to become family heirlooms. So naturally I've followed her advice. I remember thinking, well, if they make permanent glue for glue dots surely they make it for tape too. Is Scotch and Scor-Tape permanent?.

I switched to Scotch Double stick tape a few years ago and my cards definitely stay together. I pick it up at Sam's in a six roll pack for about eleven dollars. Will last me for several months. I also like Scor Tape but it is more expensive I think.

What does ATG stand for? I've never heard of it. After reading this thread, I'm hitting Michael's with my coupon for double sided tape. I've spent a small fortune on glue dots unnecessarily by following my instructor.

ATG stands for Advanced Tape Glider. I love mine! It seems intimidating at first but once you get used to it it's a breeze.

I still use SNAIL for small pieces and ribbon, though. I've never personally had an issue with SNAIL type adhesives, but the ATG is so much more cost-effective.

Score tape is my favorite and it can be torn. I am ATG gun challenged. I can't seem to get it or the other gun I bought to work right and some of the little glue runners seem to jam also. Do use glue dots for tiny things but my greatest find lately is thermo dots sticky web , works great for Cheery Lynn and other detailed dies and so far I've only used one sheet in two months!

ATG is definitely it for me. I usually buy 24 rolls of tape at a time and it lasts for a long time.

For quick and easy I've discovered an Elmer's brand double sided DOT runner adhesive. It's displayed with the tapes, but I find the "dot" faster and easier to use. So far nothing i've made has come apart. It's the same basic size and shape as the SU or Tombow tape runners and I like to have something that small to "grab and go". Unless I buy the refills with a coupon it's not the most cost effective so I try to be careful with how much I use it.

After years of having things come apart with the SU Snail ( tombow tape runner) I finally bought a pink ATG with a coupon at Michaels. Love it! Took a little getting used to but the refills are so much more cost effective and the tape that comes with it by 3M company holds well. I will be ordering from the tapedepot.com at some point since everyone out here raves about the price and has no complaints with the quality of their tape rolls for the ATG. This is my "everyday" double sided tape for when I'm crafting at home.

I will also use ScorTape for heavy or embossed layers or embellishments.

You can make your own glue dots with Alene's Tack It Over. Just squirt out onto a silicone mat or coated paper postage stamps come on. Let dry a few hours and they are ready to use.

I use nothing but Scor Tape (also known as Sook Wang tape) - not one of my cards have fallen apart since I switched to it. Personally I think it is cheaper than most other tapes and it comes in a variety of widths from very narrow which is ideal for thin ribbon to very wide, and also comes in 8.5 x 11 sheets. And you don't need to cut the narrow tape as it is easy to tear.

Kathlyn47 - you asked if it is permanent - yes, it is. It is also acid-free so is perfect for family heirlooms.

i just use double sided tape from an online store - i have no idea of the brand - but it might have something to do with humidity. are you in a humid area? i didn't notice before clicking reply. you might be better of with a thin layer of tacky glue over the dst before adhering to your card.

I got an ATG gun last year and I do like it, it holds things very well. The only thing I don't like about it is accuracy. Because its so big I find it hard to put the tape right where I need it, like on edges. I really have to work on that when I use it (if accuracy of the tape is an issue that is).

I do like the Tombo mono multi glue though. That stuff works very well. I use the tip side and just a little will hold my card or pages, even embelishments. One little container lasts me a long time. I buy it in bulk and it comes out to be about $2 a bottle.

I also use the scor tape and really like that stuff too. But I don't use it on my cards, unless its got a lot of embossed layers, cause it holds those types of things very well. And I like the scor tape better than the red line because I can tear it, don't have to cut it. I find it on blogs for sale (bulk buys) and its really a good deal.

I did buy the 1/8 inch scor tape but I'm not impressed with that. The inner cardboard circle that keeps it together is comign off, the sticky tape underneath it is coming loose so its kind of a mess to use, but I'm getting all that I can out of it. I had the same size last year and didn't have that problem. That size is just cut so thin that its wobbly when you use it. No problems with the other sizes though.

I still have the tombo snail though, but I only use that for little things. Its not my go to glue any longer. And when I do use it, I run the snail very slowly because it goes on better and then rub rub rub on the item to make sure it secures it.

I use rubber cement. It is cheaper than tape. It is acid free and takes a little bit to dry, so, you have a window to move your paper to even up. Can't get it apart once dried. I mostly sew my cards except gluing it to the base card.

When I use SU SNAIL, I've started putting some on BOTH pieces. For example, if I am putting a layer onto a card base, I'll put SNAIL on all four sides of the layer here and there and then a couple lines horizontally in the center. Then on the card base where the layer will go, I will put a few lines in the center going the other way (vertically) so it intersects with the layer. I think this holds better than SNAIL just on one piece. I also do that with the SU Glue Sticks...put it on both things I am sticking together. Someone told me a long time ago that that was a good idea to keep things sticking. I use the Tombow Multi Glue a lot since that came out. I do wish there was a perfect adhesive! And when the SU Sticky Strip came out, they said to burnish it before taking off the red strip on top and I would say also burnish (if you can) what you are sticking on to it for a good adhesion. I often see people just barely stick things together....I think you need to make sure they are stuck together well to start with. But I've had even Sticky Strip things come apart when most people swear by Sticky Strip.

I've never had a problem at all with scor-tape, it is sold under different names--sookwang I think is one of them. The makers of the ultra-fine glitter use this tape too for their projects. I've heard wonderful things about the ATG so I've purchased one and hope I'll love it too.

I've had issues with some other runners, including SU's snail (Tombow) as well as the Glue Glider--I've had cards fall apart using the Glue Glider, even with their stickiest product, so I wish I'd never bought it and just don't use it anymore (still have a few rolls unused...). So personally I'd go for scor-tape or if you want a runner, go for the ATG from what I've heard (that one isn't from personal experience, but a good friend LOVES hers). They do have different ATG's though, hers is a lot larger than my pink one I purchased on a super sale at Michael's, and she has more difficulty getting her refills at a great deal.

You're definitely NOT alone, dealing with cards falling apart, it's VERY frustrating, that's why I spend more and buy scor-tape. Made about 400 bookmarks last fall while helping my Mom after a surgery, most of them to go in people's bibles with bible verses on them and I wanted them to LAST, so I used the scor-tape on all of them. I haven't heard that any have come apart...

Scor-tape all the way! I love the stuff. It comes in multiple sizes and tears right off the roll. I have also found that it is pretty easy to remove the backing! Good luck!

I SHOULD have mentioned that one of the GREAT features of scor-tape is that you DON'T need any scissors to cut it, it just tears off easily, and that really saves SO much time, a wonderful feature!!! So along with having such great adhesion, it's also very convenient. ANY of the products made by this great company are wonderful! I DO prefer Martha Stewart's scoring board above the others (haven't tried SU's so it might be better, SU products are GREAT) that I've tried.

I had the same problems with double sided tapes. I don't use them anymore. I use only Aqua glue and the Zig two-way glue pen. No problem keeping things together with those!
