I have 4 sets of the Pebble Chalks and I love them all. Chalks are like many other items you get what you pay for. I started with the little chalklets from walmart that are like 8 bucks for 20 colors or something like that and it didn't take me long to see that they were cheap because they were made cheap. I have since moved on to the pebbles and I love them so very much. They are nice smooth chalks. My suggestion is to start with a set you think you will like and then add more sets as you feel you need them. HTH
I purchased mine at joann.com a set at a time with a coupon so they were like 40-50% less each set. I'm sure there are lots of other places out there that have them.
I've been using the SU chalk and chalk pencils, how do the pebble chalks compare to SU? I know I love the pebble colors, but haven't been able to make myself buy more. TIA
Also, don't know if you need one, but I loaded a chalk technique book that you might of some interest: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
I have the Jewel Tone Chalk Set and I love them! I rarely use my SU chalks. Pepples are so nice and smooth and the colors are AWESOME!
I am going to get the Mettalics next.
Hobby Lobby does carry them. They hang across the isle from the stamps and ink pads in my Hobby Lobby or at least that is where they were when I got mine.

Awesome! I still have a gift card from Christmas AND a 40% off coupon!
I have a Pebbles set that DH bought me. But if I'm honest, I get way more use from a set of broken chalk pastels which I just shave onto my card with a sharp knife.
I'm with Cook...I have a set of the artist pastels that I use alot. I don't even shave mine. I just use a qtip and swipe it on the side of the chalk.
I had some Pebbles at one time (the shimmery ones) and it hardly looked like I put any color on the paper. Kind of frustrating.
The shimmery ones don't add alot of color...they add more of a sparkly bling. the other pebble chalks really do pack color in them. I used a brown the other day not thinking and it went on so dark i had to use an eraser and try to lighten it down. LOL! I have used the Shimmery ones over pencil, other chalks for sparkly, also like on the brim of santas hat and suit(the white) etc
I would highly recommend them. I have all 4 sets and they're really cool. The quality is the best that I've come across. There's a bit of shimmer in them that makes it sparkle when you look really close. It reminds me of the shimmery white cs from SU! I also love that you can use the tweezer to pick up each cotton ball (3 sizes!) for each color because I hate having to clean an applicator or store a bunch of them separately so the colors won't mix. Here's a close-up of it because I know you can't really see it in the stock photos.

Oh, beautiful image. That's a perfect image to use for these chalks. I've only used them for backgrounds (like skies, oceans, meadows, etc.) I need to start coloring with them too. Great job!

Same here, I have artist grade pastels from way back when--and Pebbles don't even come close in comparison! Barely any color. I think you would get more color from one of those huge eyeshadow/makeup kits you can buy fairly inexpensively around Christmas time!
If you like the Pebbles though, don't try artist grade pastels, you'll be ruined forever, LOL!
BTW, anyone want my Pebbles? Maybe a trade?:p

Wow, I have all the sets of Pebbles and just love them - the pastel and shimmers are light, but the earth tones and jewels and brights pack a pretty good color POW, I think. And I have to say, I love to pompom applicators. I also have a set of artist grade pastels and love those as well, but for different purposes than the Pebbles. I also have the pastel chalk pencils which I use for even different types of projects, so I guess I'm just a faithless wench The only chalks that I've owned that I am truly disappointed in are the EK Success chalklets that they sell in the round stacking containers. Those I barely get any color out of, even the darker ones, and they have kind of a dry grainy feel when you use them.
A bit confused but I am going to Hobby Lobby promptly at 4 pm when I get off work. I have coupon ready.
But...what kind of pastel chalks would I be looking at for my comparison shopping? So you have to seal both the Pebble chalk and pastel chalk with a fixative? i.e. hair spray
