Default Distress Embossing Ink?

I've been salivating over Tim Holtz's new book of techniques, A Compendium of Curiosities (I think that's the correct title), and he uses "Distress Embossing Ink" a lot in it.
My question is: what's the difference between that and Versamark ink? Can we just use that instead, or "must" I buy the distress embossing ink?
Thanks for your help!
