Deciding between die cut machines

So I'm still doing some research on which machine I should buy. I have been watching some videos on the Cricut Explore Air 2 and the Cameo and have been leaning towards the Cricut.

So I came on here to read the sticky threads up top and noticed that the last date someone posted was Dec 2017 and the last date on the Cameo was Feb of 2019. To me that just seems that nobody is talking about the Cricut lately. Is that a bad sign? LOL

I owned the original Cricut and sold that a few years ago along with all of my cartridges. And no, none of mine were linked, I never used Design Studio, etc.

I really don't want or need anything extravagant. I'm not one to use it for vinyl. I am a simple scrapbooker and would really only use it to make titles and die cuts for my pages (whether they're the print & cut or regular piece together die cuts). That's it. So maybe I don't even need the Explore Air 2, I don't know.

Any thoughts?

Have you considered the Brother Scan n Cut? That would certainly cope with cutting round printed (or stamped) shapes, and with the free add-on design software, you can make titles of any size with suitable fonts from your computer. Brother brought out some new models last year, so there are probably bargains to be had where people have the original machine to sell (you did say nothing extravagant). HTH.

The Silhouette machines- and the Cameo is the 12x12 model, also cut from any font on your machine- even dingbats. Also, it comes with software allowing you to scan images and then cut them out, so will pretty much do the same as a Brother, but way less expensive. On a side note, if all you want is to cut titles and such, do you actually need the 12x12 version? The Portrait 2, which I bought recently, has an A4 sized cutting area, which may be sufficient for your needs. I went with this one, as a cardmaker, I didn't need the larger format, and it was a very reasonable price.

I also use my cutter for basic cardmaking and have found the Silhouette Portrait is perfect for what I need—especially because it doesn’t take up much space.

Have you considered ScanNCut? It does all of those machines PLUS it can scan an image and cut it out. Like a stamped image or an image on pattern paper. It does so much more.
